The highlight of the consultation session was four students asking questions about the language industry. Bao Tran, a 12th grader at Tran Van Thoi High School, asked: Currently, students can study English at centers to get certificates, so is it worth spending nearly four years studying for a bachelor's degree in English?

My Thuong wondered again: Will artificial intelligence (AI) replace human translators? Two other friends continued to "question" that with more and more people knowing English, will learning English become saturated? And how is the current English language different from English pedagogy?

Dr. Pham Tan Ha, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that acquiring linguistic talent is not simple. Language is a training process that takes 4-10 years or more.

During this process, learners not only learn listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, but also gain in-depth knowledge of word and sentence structures, editing, translation, and teaching skills...

You will also need to know about the literature, art, and culture of the country you are studying the language of. This is something that a language center or a certificate program cannot provide, but should be provided by a university program. "Many candidates have IELTS 7.5, 8.0 but still choose to study a bachelor's degree in English, because a university program gives you values that a certificate cannot," said Mr. Ha.

Dr. Pham Tan Ha noted that a student who is good at foreign languages must also be good at... Vietnamese. Currently, many students are very good at translating from Vietnamese to English, but when translating from English to Vietnamese, they have problems. They do not know which words in Vietnamese to use appropriately.

As for AI, Mr. Ha advised candidates to rest assured because AI cannot currently replace humans because AI cannot understand the psychology, emotions and context of the conversation, only humans can translate accurately.

This morning, March 17, the Admissions and Career Guidance Program will continue to reach students in Bac Lieu province. The program will take place at Bac Lieu High School (Nguyen Tat Thanh, Ward 5, Bac Lieu City).
