Nghe An: Strong progress in building digital infrastructure by 2024

Nghe An identifies digital infrastructure as a core factor in achieving digital transformation goals. By 2024, the province's telecommunications and Internet network will cover 100% of communes, wards and towns; 98% of villages and hamlets will have mobile broadband connections and 92% of households will have fixed broadband Internet. This is one of the highest rates in the North Central region, helping to ensure that all people and organizations have the opportunity to access and use digital services.

Currently, the province has more than 2,500 BTS transceiver stations, an increase of 15% compared to 2023. In particular, 5G infrastructure has been deployed in all city centers, towns and key industrial zones such as Vinh, Cua Lo, and the Southeast Economic Zone. The average Internet access speed in urban areas reaches 50 Mbps, ensuring to meet the increasing needs of people and businesses.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Nghe An province, said: "Modern digital infrastructure is not only a tool to support state management but also a foundation to promote innovation, improve economic efficiency and people's quality of life. We will continue to promote investment and expand digital infrastructure throughout the province, towards building a comprehensive digital society."

Digital Government: Promoting digital transformation in state management

By 2024, Nghe An will have completed the technology infrastructure to serve digital government. 100% of state administrative agencies from provincial to communal levels have been connected to the wide area network (WAN). The system of interconnected electronic documents, digital signatures and online public services has been deployed synchronously, creating favorable conditions for people and businesses.

The province's online public service portal provides more than 2,000 administrative procedures at levels 3 and 4, with the rate of online settlement reaching over 85%. This not only reduces time and costs for people but also improves the efficiency of state management. The province's network information security monitoring center (SOC) has also been put into operation, contributing to data protection and ensuring information security during the digital transformation process.

Digital Economic Development: Impressive Growth

In 2024, the digital economy will continue to be a bright spot in Nghe An's economic structure. According to a report by the Department of Planning and Investment, the proportion of the digital economy will account for 15% of the province's GRDP, an increase of 3% compared to 2023. Key areas such as e-commerce, financial technology (fintech), and smart manufacturing have attracted investment interest from many large enterprises.

Currently, more than 10,000 enterprises in the province have applied digital technology to production and business activities. In particular, platforms such as electronic invoices, digital signatures, and cloud-based enterprise management have helped enterprises reduce costs, improve efficiency, and compete in the market. E-commerce platforms such as Voso and Postmart also supported the consumption of more than 5,000 tons of Nghe An agricultural products in the past year, bringing high economic value to the people.

Digital Society: Bringing Technology into Everyday Life

The development of digital infrastructure not only brings economic benefits but also contributes to improving the quality of life for people. By 2024, the rate of people using smartphones in Nghe An will reach 85%, the rate of households with Internet connection will reach 92%. Online services such as cashless payments, online shopping, or online learning are becoming increasingly popular.

The smart healthcare system has also been widely deployed, with 90% of healthcare facilities applying medical examination and treatment management software. People can make online appointments and look up health information via the application, helping to save time and improve the healthcare service experience. In the field of education, online learning platforms such as Viettel Study and K12 Online have supported thousands of students and teachers in the teaching and learning process, especially in remote areas.

Challenges and future directions

Despite its achievements, Nghe An still faces many challenges in the process of developing digital infrastructure. Some mountainous and island areas still lack broadband coverage; data infrastructure in some agencies and businesses is still limited. In addition, raising awareness of digital transformation among people and businesses also needs more attention.

In the coming time, Nghe An province aims to develop synchronous digital infrastructure, especially in disadvantaged areas; promote investment in big data and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. At the same time, the province will coordinate with telecommunications enterprises to deploy 5G services throughout the province by 2025, ensuring fast and stable Internet speed to serve production and daily life needs.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung emphasized: "We are committed to continuing our efforts to build a modern, synchronous and sustainable digital infrastructure, contributing to making Nghe An a digital transformation center in the North Central region."

Digital infrastructure is becoming an important development driver for Nghe An province, opening up many new opportunities for the government, businesses and people. With outstanding achievements in 2024, Nghe An province not only affirms its position in the region but also lays a solid foundation for breakthroughs, aiming to become one of the leading provinces in the country in digital transformation by 2030./.
