The men's individual cross-country event consists of 22 racers running 4 laps with a total distance of 8.4 km. Although there are 22 racers, the competition for the gold medal is really only between 3 names: Bui Van Nhat, Dinh Quang Linh (Hoa Binh), Nguyen Van Lam (Thanh Hoa) because they are superior to the rest.
In recent years, the men's mountain bike events have often been a duel between Dinh Quang Linh and Nguyen Van Lam. At that time, Bui Van Nhat was still considered a bit lower than his seniors, but in this year's tournament, the situation was reversed. Bui Van Nhat showed much more progress than Dinh Quang Linh and Nguyen Van Lam in terms of strength and speed.
After finishing 3 laps, the top group only had 3 riders left. Entering the final lap, Bui Van Nhat took advantage of a steep road to create a gap with the two competitors in the group. Although in the last meters, Nguyen Van Lam tried to speed up to catch up, he was still helpless as Bui Van Nhat won another gold medal. Dinh Quang Linh finished third and won the bronze medal.
Thus, Bui Van Nhat had no rival in the mountain bike competition in the men's events when he won 3 individual gold medals and 2 team gold medals. If the referee had not been strict in the sensitive collision and fall situation, stripping Bui Van Nhat's gold medal and giving it to Dinh Quang Linh yesterday, perhaps the racer from the host team Hoa Binh would have won all 6 gold medals of the tournament.
Meanwhile, in the women's category, a total of 22 girls got on the saddle to compete in 4 laps with a total distance of 7 km. All attention was focused on the battle between the golden girl Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh (Binh Duong) and Ca Thi Thom (Army).
After letting her juniors take 2 individual gold medals in the first 2 days, Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh earned gold yesterday in the Cross-country event. Having released her nerves, Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh played quite well today. She finished first with a gap of 25 seconds compared to Tran Thi Mai (Thanh Hoa) and 1 minute 12 seconds compared to Ca Thi Thom to bring the second gold medal to the Binh Duong delegation.
After the off-road events are over, the national cycling championship will move on to the road cycling events.
