Buffett explained that he believes in the value and ability of his children to manage their wealth. Each of Buffett's children has their own charitable organization.

Buffett has previously said that more than 99% of his fortune is given to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four charities linked to his family: the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the NoVo Foundation.

Berkshire Hathaway announced that Buffett is converting about 9,000 Class A shares into more than 13 million Class B shares. About 9.3 million shares will go to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with the remainder divided among four Buffett family charities.

Buffett donated about $870 million to four family charities last year and about $750 million in 2022.

Buffett currently owns 207,963 Class A shares and 2,586 Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway, with a total value of about $128 billion.
