Following a recent increase in knife attacks, the New South Wales government has tightened its knife laws. Police can now use metal detectors to search people without a warrant in public places such as shopping centres, stadiums, and public transport stations.
Images from the scene showed two cars rammed and cordoned off by police. It was one of the most high-profile attacks since a knife attack in the Bondi area in April left six people dead and 12 injured.
