The information was given by Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health), on the sidelines of the Northern Regional Hospital Directors Club Conference held in Hai Duong, April 18-19.
According to Mr. Duc, the situation of fake milk and fake medicine has become complicated recently, directly affecting people's health. Worryingly, some milk products from the company being investigated for producing fake milk have appeared in hospitals and been used for patients.
“We require hospitals to review the use of milk, clarify when it started, which groups it was used for, and ensure there is specific information about who used it. If a health problem arises related to milk products, medical facilities are responsible for advising and consulting patients,” Mr. Duc said.
Regarding the responsibility of prescribing, the leader of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management said that the Ministry of Health has issued clear regulations. In case a doctor violates the prescription regulations, he will be handled according to the level - from administrative to criminal if serious.
"The Ministry's viewpoint is to handle it strictly, without forbidden zones, and without covering up violations if discovered by authorities," Mr. Duc emphasized.
It is expected that early next week, the Ministry of Health will issue a document requesting hospital directors to review and rectify the work of prescribing, selling drugs and providing services in hospitals. The heads of the units must take direct responsibility.
Mr. Duc also said that the Ministry has issued technical lists on clinical nutrition in the latest Circular in 2024, and continues to specify instructions to support doctors and patients. The Ministry has issued many clinical guidelines on the use of nutrition for patients with malnutrition, including the role of milk.
“In developed countries, the field of clinical nutrition is highly focused. Vietnam is still behind but is making efforts to improve,” he said
Previously, after a review, some hospitals discovered that the company’s milk products were being internally circulated after being investigated for producing fake milk. These units affirmed that they had fully implemented the bidding process, and proactively stopped product consultation in departments immediately after discovering the suspicion. The imported milk was recalled and returned to the supplier.
These hospitals said that if the authorities conclude that the product is counterfeit, the hospital will also be the victim and will accompany the patient to reclaim their legitimate rights.
Regarding the incident, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a dispatch requesting the Ministry of Public Security to urgently investigate and handle the case of manufacturing and trading fake drugs and milk. The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Health to closely coordinate in the investigation process, because these are products that directly affect people's health and lives.
In addition, the Prime Minister requested the complete recall of detected counterfeit medicines and health protection foods, timely prevention and minimization of harm to users.
