With the development of social networks today, many singers, actors, and celebrities participate in advertising products on the Internet, causing consumers to be caught up in a "matrix" of unverified information. False advertising and exaggeration of product benefits have also forced many artists to apologize.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh said that new realities require amendments to the Advertising Law. During the process of amending the law, the ministry received many enthusiastic contributions and added a number of specific provisions to regulate the behavior of celebrities and artists participating in advertising.
Accordingly, the Advertising Law is being amended, including additional regulations clearly defining the responsibilities of artists and celebrities when participating in product advertising. They must verify information transparently and be legally responsible for the content they convey.
It is expected that in the decree guiding the revised law, there will be strong sanctions such as banning advertising, restricting artistic activities or appearing on media and social networks for individuals who violate the law.
Responding to a reporter's question about the Ministry of Health recently requesting relevant units to strictly handle artists advertising false information and fake milk, a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that they had assigned the Department of Performing Arts to investigate and provide specific information to the press.
People's Artist Xuan Bac, Director of the Department of Performing Arts, affirmed that the department's viewpoint in a recent response clearly stated: "It is valuable for artists and celebrities to use the trust and attention of the public to spread positive values in society. If they introduce products they have used, have good experiences with, and want to share with the community, it should be encouraged. However, cases of taking advantage of fame to deliberately advertise falsely, exaggerate the uses of products, need to be clarified in order to have appropriate handling measures."
According to People's Artist Xuan Bac, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a Code of Conduct for Artists and a Code of Conduct in Cyberspace. In the near future, the Department of Performing Arts will consult with the ministry to issue binding regulations, regulate behavior, and raise awareness among artists. This will help artists have political and social awareness, become responsible citizens, and spread good values.
