Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung thanked Mr. Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu, Minister of Transport and Communications of Timor Leste, for his participation at the Vietnam International Digital Week 2024 held in Ha Long City.

At the same time, he affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Timor Leste, as well as supports this country to soon become an official member of ASEAN.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that with the development potential of the information technology and communications industry, Vietnam and Timor Leste have many opportunities for cooperation to promote digital transformation and build an effective, safe and sustainable digital government.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung shared Vietnam's advantages, experiences and practices. He also affirmed his readiness to share experiences, cooperate and exchange in developing fiber optic cables, telecommunications and frequency management, number portability, providing digital resources and frequencies for businesses, digital transformation of the Government, ensuring information security and network security, training digital human resources and supporting policies.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung also expressed his hope that the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Timor Leste will create conditions for Telemor (Viettel) as well as Vietnamese enterprises to continue to invest stably, long-term and sustainably here.

Mr. Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu, Minister of Transport and Communications of Timor Leste, thanked the Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam for the warm and thoughtful welcome. He also affirmed that Timor Leste and Vietnam have had a long-standing cooperative relationship. Therefore, this meeting and participation is an important event marking the sustainable development between the two countries.

Appreciating the development of Telemor, Mr. Miguel Marques Gonçalves Manetelu affirmed that Telemor is currently the largest mobile network operator, actively contributing to the development of information technology and telecommunications in Timor Leste.

He expressed his wish to always be ready to cooperate in the field of information and communications in particular and the fields of investment, trade and society in general, to enhance cooperation, exchange, mutual assistance, attract Vietnamese enterprises to invest, strengthen connectivity in remote areas, develop cyberspace, and ensure information needs for people through this visit.

In particular, in 2025, Timor Leste will implement a submarine optical cable telecommunications project, so the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Timor Leste expressed its hope to receive support and assistance from Vietnam in this field.

During the meeting, the two sides hoped to soon sign a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Timor Leste. This will create a premise for strengthening bilateral trade relations with great potential, further promoting the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
