At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed his support for OIF's efforts in promoting the use of French, cultural diversity and economic cooperation in the Francophone space; affirming that Vietnam is an active and responsible member of the Francophone community.
At the same time, the Minister also made a number of specific proposals to promote cooperation between the two sides in the economic and trade fields, especially with African countries; teaching French and supporting French language training, including French language training for Vietnamese military and police forces participating in United Nations peacekeeping activities in African countries.
The Minister also thanked and appreciated OIF's attention to regional issues, including the East Sea issue.
Secretary General Louise Mushikiwabo recalled the impression of the very successful visit of the first OIF economic and trade promotion delegation led by her to Vietnam in March 2022; emphasized that OIF highly values the role and position of Vietnam in the Francophone community; hoped that Vietnam would continue to promote its active role in international forums, sharing experiences with African countries in food self-sufficiency and poverty reduction.
Sharing and acknowledging the suggestions of the Vietnamese side, Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo affirmed that the Francophone community will strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in developing and spreading the French language, support and be ready to act as a bridge to promote economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Francophone countries, and support French language training for Vietnamese peacekeeping forces and Vietnamese officials working in the multilateral field.

Also on June 7, in Paris, France, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Development Bureau Algernon Yau Ying-wah.
At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the positive developments in the exchange and cooperation relationship, especially in economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Hong Kong in recent times. Hong Kong is currently the 7th largest trade partner and the 5th largest FDI investor of Vietnam; Vietnam is the 7th largest trade partner of Hong Kong and the 2nd largest among ASEAN countries.
In order to strengthen and further facilitate bilateral economic and trade cooperation, the Minister suggested that the two sides increase exchanges of delegations between government agencies, localities, businesses and people.
Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that Hong Kong create more favorable conditions for granting entry visas to Vietnamese citizens and businessmen; conduct a pilot study on receiving Vietnamese workers to work in Hong Kong; encourage large corporations and enterprises of Hong Kong to participate in trade and investment promotion activities in Vietnam; suggest that Hong Kong increase imports of agricultural, forestry, aquatic, textile and footwear products from Vietnam; and support Vietnamese enterprises to promote trade, investment and tourism in Hong Kong.
Director Algernon Yau Ying-wah expressed his impression of Vietnam's economic development achievements in recent times and shared Minister Bui Thanh Son's assessment of the importance of economic - trade - investment cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong.
Mr. Algernon Yau emphasized that large Hong Kong enterprises highly appreciate the business and investment environment in Vietnam, and wish to approach and seek opportunities in Vietnam, including new areas such as technology and innovation; affirming that Hong Kong is ready to be a gateway for Vietnamese enterprises to invest and do business effectively in the Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong-Macau-Guangdong).
Mr. Algernon Yau also acknowledged and will forward the proposal on reviewing the issue of entry visas and facilitating Vietnamese workers to work in Hong Kong to the competent authorities for consideration.
