Speaking at the meeting between General Secretary To Lam and teachers and lecturers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son reviewed some of the achievements of the education sector in recent years, including the literacy rate for people over 16 years old reaching over 97%, completing the goal of universalizing education for 5-year-old children, universalizing primary and secondary education, and general education ranking 53rd in the world, and being in the top 10 countries participating in the International Olympics for many consecutive years.
"These results are thanks to the attention and direction of the Party and State leaders, the investment and attention of the whole society, and the efforts of teachers and all students," said the Minister.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son spoke this morning.
However, education is still facing many major challenges such as solving the problem of solidifying schools, providing places for students to study, ensuring the minimum number of teachers. Besides, there are challenges in ensuring equitable access to education between regions; developing equity between the public and private education systems; online violence; parents and managers still put too much emphasis on achievements, causing children to suffer.
According to Minister Son, the biggest challenge for teachers and the education sector comes from within, from the educational innovation process itself, the challenge of innovation, surpassing oneself.
"Facing the era of national development, education needs to change from within, aiming at comprehensive human development education, creating good citizens and high-quality human resources. Innovation in education must change old habits, ways of thinking, ways of thinking and doing, overcoming limits to develop breakthroughs," the head of the education sector emphasized.
In order for education to overcome these challenges, the team of teachers needs to make great efforts and be constantly creative, with correct and accurate solutions. At the same time, the education sector needs greater attention from the Party and the State, so that the top national policy is truly the top national policy, and needs more practical and timely attention.
The Minister of Education and Training stated that the country's education is facing great demands and great opportunities. The greater the assigned mission, the higher the requirements and expectations, the faster the innovation and improvement are required. A country that wants to develop rapidly to become a developed country with high income needs high-quality human resources, good qualities, good abilities, good physical health, good skills, good foreign languages, especially human resources for key science and technology sectors and new technologies.
Education around the world is facing challenges due to the explosion of knowledge, artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, big data, supercomputers, virtual schools, with new pedagogical methods and tools. These new factors have made many people question the existence of schools and the role of teachers in the future.
We need to face the challenges, not avoid them, not be afraid, stand firmly on the foundation of educational science and the qualities of a teacher to receive the advantages of the times, take advantage of the advantages, and develop faster. Artificial intelligence cannot replace humans, the role of teachers cannot be replaced.
With artificial intelligence and new digital media, we need to see them as new sharp and powerful tools. The sharper and more powerful the tools and weapons, the more they require the users to have higher thinking capacity and better skills to control and use them.
More than 1,000 teachers, lecturers and scientists attended the program this morning.
According to the Minister, the greater the challenges, the more changes, the more new things are introduced, the more education needs to be strengthened, equipping learners with the most basic and fundamental things about love, honesty, kindness and beauty, in addition to the new abilities and skills of the times.
"Educational innovation in the next stage is essentially an innovation in depth of the teaching force itself. The limits of teachers are the limits of education, the limits of education are the limits of a country's development. We teachers need to turn limits into unlimited ones," the Minister expected.
Teachers and intellectuals definitely need to answer the question: how to respond to the trust, confidence and responsibility of the Party, the State and the people? The repayment of intellectuals has always been and should be in the spirit of "a debt of gratitude to the country must be repaid with a river".
Reiterating the direction of General Secretary To Lam, the Minister of Education and Training said that the role of the teaching force is the "locomotive", the most important force that determines education.
On this occasion, the Minister also expressed his gratitude to all students nationwide for their efforts in studying and striving. "It is you who have created the achievements of education and the success and growth of teachers. Without students, there would be nothing for teachers to do," the Minister emphasized.
In the era of freedom, democracy and equality, students do not need to be timid, small, fearful and self-conscious in front of teachers, especially great teachers, but they also must not be "all in one", destroying the solemn tradition of teacher-student relationship. Students need to be confident, self-reliant, self-reliant, self-reliant, actively express and assert themselves in their studies, but still have to be polite and respectful to teachers.
