On the morning of June 22, in Con Noi area, Kim Son district, the Forestry Project Management Board (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) coordinated with the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee to organize afforestation activities within the framework of the Red River Delta Mangrove Restoration and Sustainable Management Project funded by the Korean Government (through the Korean Forestry Agency).
Attending the event were Mr. Nam Sunghyun, Minister of the Korean Forestry Agency; leaders of the Provincial People's Committee Office, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Kim Son district and many members of the Korean Association in Vietnam, the forest planting contractor.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of the Korean Forestry Agency thanked the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee for planning this meaningful tree planting event. He emphasized that mangrove forests are the optimal natural solution to address climate change - the most urgent and important issue facing humanity. They are not only a huge source of carbon absorption but also a breeding ground for marine life, protecting people's lives and property from natural disasters, storms and floods.
Therefore, since 2020, the Korea Forest Service and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam have promoted the implementation of the Project on Restoration and Sustainable Management of Mangroves in the Red River Delta. Thereby, contributing to further enriching the economy, environment and society of Vietnam, and at the same time opening the era of "Forest Renaissance" with Vietnam.
With sincere thanks to the Minister and the Korean Forestry Agency for their support to Vietnam, the leader of the Forestry Project Management Board (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said: Currently, the Project has completed all legal procedures, land and other necessary conditions for planting 250 hectares and restoring 80 hectares of mangrove forest at the site. With the determination of the parties, the cooperation and active support of the sponsor, and the sense of responsibility of the localities, the Project will certainly be successfully implemented and achieve high efficiency.
Immediately afterwards, the Minister of the Korean Forestry Agency, along with delegates and many members of the Korean Association in Vietnam, participated in planting hundreds of Sonneratia trees in the alluvial area of Con Noi, Kim Son district.
The project "Restoration and Sustainable Management of Mangrove Forests in the Red River Delta", abbreviated as KFS, is funded by the Korean Government through the Korean Forestry Agency with a total investment of 4.392 million USD, (equivalent to nearly 94 billion VND).
Of which, the non-refundable aid capital from Korea is 3.792 million USD, the counterpart capital from Vietnam is 0.6 million USD. The implementation period is 5 years (from 2020-2024) including the project preparation time. Implementation location: Xuan Thuy National Park, Nam Dinh province and Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province.
