In Mr. Doan Thuoc's house, dozens of unique wooden sculptures are displayed, such as Sun Wukong (the Monkey King), sunflowers, a depiction of Ha Long Bay, seals, fluffy-tailed squirrels, penguins, and termite mounds with mushrooms growing on them. Previously, Mr. Thuoc used to go to the beach to collect driftwood after each flood season for firewood. Three years ago, he came up with the idea of selecting tree stumps to create animal shapes, adding vibrancy to his home.
His first work was titled "Sun Wukong." After picking up a long piece of wood, he sketched the image of a monkey. Mr. Thuoc meticulously carried out each step, from sketching the idea, cleaning and scrubbing the wood, to removing damaged and termite-infested parts... "I work as a bricklayer. To create a piece, I use simple bricklaying tools like saws, sickles, hammers, and chisels to carve and refine it," he said.

Introducing the artwork "Song Hỷ" (Double Happiness), Mr. Thuộc shared, "From a damaged piece of wood, I envisioned two birds facing each other. From there, I meticulously carved and shaped the two birds under the shadow of a python." Regarding the artwork "Ha Long Bay," Mr. Thuộc sketched it from a photograph, creating the image of large and small islands using two pieces of wood, one large and one small. In the collection, the artwork "Hoa Chuối" (Banana Flower) is also very unique, and many have likened it to a torch.

For Mr. Thuoc, each artwork is like a spiritual child, cherished and treasured. Many friends who visit his home often marvel at his simple yet unique collection. Among them, the "Dragon Riding on Clouds" artwork leaves a strong impression. From an old, bent piece of wood, he shaped it into a vibrant dragon. He also used a large piece of wood as a base underneath. Mr. Thuoc said, "I often use my free time to create. Some artworks take several days to complete, while others only take a day. For larger pieces, I carefully measure and use glue. To give the product a glossy and beautiful finish, I use paint."
After a hard day's work, Mr. Thuoc often brews a pot of tea, sits down to sip the hot tea, and admires the fruits of his labor, bringing spiritual joy to his life.
