VietNamNetVietNamNet27/05/2020

In response to voters' request that: "The Party and State need to continue to resolutely and persistently implement appropriate measures in the fight to protect sovereignty over seas and islands and promptly inform the people", the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense affirmed: With its functions and tasks, the Ministry of National Defense regularly directs military forces to strengthen the work of grasping the situation in sea areas, organizing forces to promptly handle situations that arise, not to be passive or surprised.

Officers and soldiers of the radar station of the 377th Air Defense Division (Air Defense - Air Force) closely monitor the activities of targets and guard the airspace over the islands.

The Ministry of National Defense promptly reports and makes recommendations to the Standing Secretariat and the Prime Minister on the situation at sea; at the same time, coordinates in providing information to central ministries, departments and branches to coordinate the fight and promptly inform the people.

Missile frigate squadron 011, 012 of Brigade 162, Naval Region 4 patrols the Truong Sa sea area.

On the islands, in addition to modern equipment, naked eye observation towers are maintained regularly.

China has stepped up its activities in accordance with its unreasonable claims in the East Sea; in addition, the activities of countries in the region asserting their sovereignty and the involvement of major countries outside the region in the East Sea have made the situation in the East Sea more complicated.

Soldiers on the submerged island of Nui Le sent out flag signals to chase away "strange ships" approaching the island.

The situation in the East Sea has affected the economy, politics, regional security and the struggle to protect Vietnam's sovereignty over its seas and islands.

CQ boats of the submerged island off Truong Sa are on duty to chase away violating boats.

The policy to protect our sea and island sovereignty is: "Resolutely and persistently protect the national territorial sovereignty of the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone, maintain military bases in the Truong Sa archipelago and the DKI platforms; closely combine political, diplomatic and legal struggles with preparing military plans, resolutely protect sea and island sovereignty."

"Maintain a peaceful and stable environment, maintain friendly and cooperative relations with other countries to develop the country; handle situations on the basis of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the 2012 Vietnam Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). Maintain an independent and self-reliant policy and seek support from the international community...", the Ministry of National Defense emphasized.

Forecasting that the situation in the East Sea will continue to develop complicatedly, in order to fight more resolutely against China's acts of violating our country's sovereignty in the coming time, the Ministry of National Defense believes that it is necessary to focus on synchronously and comprehensively implementing solutions on politics, economics, diplomacy, information and propaganda at home and abroad, especially the press to raise awareness of the legal basis to affirm Vietnam's sovereignty over seas and islands.
