Ministry of National Defense surveys to build Bach Long Vi into...

On April 23, Ship CSB 4036 of Squadron 112, Squadron 11, Command of Coast Guard Region 1 carried a delegation of the Ministry of National Defense, led by Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, in coordination with the People's Committee of Hai Phong City to conduct a field survey and develop a project to build and develop Bach Long Vi island district into an economic and defense center in the Gulf of Tonkin region.

Resolution No. 07/NQ-CP dated January 10, 2025 of the Government has the task of "Building and developing Bach Long Vi island district into an economic - defense center of the Gulf of Tonkin region", in which, the Government assigned the Ministry of National Defense to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Hai Phong City and relevant ministries, branches and sectors to implement the project.

Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc delivered a concluding speech on the survey trip.

Here, the working delegation conducted surveys at many key locations to assess the current status and comprehensive development potential of the district.

The project has key contents, including: Developing services and tourism; applying high technology to aquaculture and food; preserving marine ecosystems and protecting the marine environment; building synchronous and modern infrastructure, enhancing traffic connections between the mainland and the islands; ensuring clean water and electricity supply to attract investment sources.

The Project's objectives also identify options for closely combining socio-economic development with strengthening national defense and security, aiming to make Bach Long Vi a center for fisheries logistics, rescue and storm shelter services in the northern sea area by 2030.

Concluding the survey trip, Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc requested the forces, agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense to develop the Project as quickly as possible and with high efficiency; continue to effectively advise superiors to improve on-site defense capabilities, defense and combat works and arrange appropriate equipment and means for the armed forces stationed on Bach Long Vi island district.

At the same time, coordinate with localities and relevant units to research and propose solutions to organize the implementation of the project to ensure feasibility, sustainability and strategic orientation, making Bach Long Vi soon become a worthy economic - defense center in the Gulf of Tonkin region, achieving the set goals.
