The exercise took place from December 1 to 4, with the participation of agencies and units in the Armed Forces and localities in Military Region 7; military branches, agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense.
The exercise was conducted in 3 phases: changing to combat readiness; preparing for defensive operations; practicing defensive operations with 7 basic training issues.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Minister of National Defense - emphasized that the Military Region 7 defensive combat exercise is a comprehensive training form to improve the leadership, command and operation capacity, the ability to advise on joint operations of all levels and forces participating in the exercise, and the level, strength and combat readiness of the Armed Forces in the Military Region 7 area.
Thereby, continue to research and adjust the combat plan to be closer to reality. At the same time, it serves as a basis for research and development of military art suitable to the terrain, area, combat object, fighting style and organization, requirements and tasks of the Army in the new period.
