Parents do not let their daughter study Engineering because they are afraid her beauty will 'fade'

VTC NewsVTC News31/07/2023

I am the youngest daughter in a family of four. My older brother is a "construction worker", so sometimes I get to follow him around to do field surveys. I admire people working in this field because they create massive, impressive projects. Therefore, since high school, I have cherished the desire to become a construction consultant and work in this field.

However, when I expressed my desire to study Civil Engineering at the University of Construction, my whole family strongly opposed it. Up until now, my family has always oriented me to study Economics.

In every conversation, my parents emphasized: "Why should girls study Engineering to ruin their beauty? This field is only for boys." My brother also agreed with that point of view.

I am very confused right now. On one side is my dream, on the other side is my family's wish, I don't know what to do to make both sides complete. Please give me some advice.
