(MPI) - The Program for Community Development and the White Cane Initiative for the Blind in Vietnam were launched by Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung on December 5, 2019 with the message "The whole country joins hands to bring happiness to the blind". To date, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has accompanied the Vietnam Association of the Blind to present more than 28,600 white canes to the blind nationwide, as well as blind people in ASEAN countries and the Asia-Pacific region. To continue implementing the Initiative, on January 20, 2025, the Ministry of Planning and Investment continued to present 7,400 white canes to the Vietnam Association of the Blind.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, Chairwoman of the Trade Union of the Ministry of Planning and Investment Le Thi Tuong Thu conveyed the warm greetings and wishes of good health from Minister Nguyen Chi Dung to all members of the Vietnam Association of the Blind. At the same time, she said that with the heart and affection of the Minister and the officials, civil servants and public employees of the Planning, Investment and Statistics sector, through the white cane, they spread love and sharing to all blind people in Vietnam, helping them have meaningful tools and means, helping blind people to rise up in their daily lives and work, contributing to improving the quality of life, and making positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the whole country.
Speaking at the reception of 7,400 white canes from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Mr. Pham Viet Thu, Chairman of the Vietnam Blind Association expressed his gratitude for the kindness and love of Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and the leaders of the units and organizations under the Ministry, as well as the cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of the Ministry of Planning and Investment who have always accompanied, cared for and helped the Vietnam Blind Association and said that these white canes are not only tools but also the crystallization of the feelings of each cadre, philanthropist, the sharing of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and felt the need to have the responsibility to spread the importance of the cane to help the blind people in Vietnam enjoy the great value of the white cane and multiply the humanity of the Program in the life and work of each individual member.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Social Affairs Department, Office of the National Assembly, representing the Ministry, departments and branches, expressed his hope that this program will develop further with the joint efforts of the whole country to bring more happiness to the blind. At the same time, he expressed his hope that the Vietnam Association of the Blind will actively promote, organize training, and continue to mobilize support for the blind and disabled with many specific supports to help them integrate into society better so that everyone can enjoy equality in society.
Through online connection, the Chairman of the Blind Association of Ninh Binh and Binh Phuoc provinces sent his deep thanks to Minister Nguyen Chi Dung as well as the officials of the Ministry of Planning and Investment for helping blind people have an effective and convenient cane in their daily life, which also helps them walk more confidently and integrate into life better.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Dinh Viet Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of the Blind, said that these white canes will be sent in full to the provinces and associations for proper use and meaning. At the same time, the Association will actively train and instruct blind people to use the canes with the highest efficiency./.
