The lucky man is Lakhan Yadav from India. He originally lived in a village near Panna National Park. However, the Madhya Pradesh state government asked him and several others to leave the village and move to the town of Panna.

When his village was demolished, he received compensation from the government. To make ends meet, Lakhan Yadav used the money to rent a piece of uncultivated land that no one wanted to use to cultivate. The land was 2 hectares in size and he rented it for just over $2 a month.

He planned to grow some crops and sell them for money. While he was digging the ground, he suddenly saw a strange stone. When he brushed the dirt off, he saw the stone emitting a sparkling light.

He was curious about the stone and suspected it might be a diamond. He took the stone to an expert for examination. After the expert gave his opinion, he was really surprised because it was a 14.98 carat diamond.

The diamond was later auctioned for 6,060,000 Indian Rupees (nearly $82,000). When asked by the media about his plans for the money, he shared that he was not highly educated, so he would save the money to educate his four children.

He also hopes to extend the lease of this land to continue reclaiming and cultivating.
