Ministry of Transport requests synchronous connection of railway station at Long Thanh International Airport

Relevant units are required to arrange railway stations and conveniently connect them with passenger terminals and facilities at Long Thanh International Airport.

The Ministry of Transport has just sent an official dispatch to the Railway Project Management Board; Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV); Transport Design Consulting Corporation (TEDI) regarding the connection of the railway station at Long Thanh International Airport.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Long Thanh International Airport is an important national port, aiming to become one of the international air transit hubs in the region. The synchronous development of the transport system connecting to Long Thanh International Airport has been determined in Resolution No. 94/2015/QH13 dated June 25, 2015 of the National Assembly .

Currently, Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport construction is underway while the North-South High-Speed Railway Project and the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh Railway Project are in the pre-feasibility study phase. Both of the above railway lines are studying the arrangement of underground stations at Long Thanh International Airport.

To ensure that the construction items of Long Thanh International Airport are built in accordance with the arrangement of the high-speed railway station on the North-South axis and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway station, the Ministry of Transport requires the Railway Project Management Board, TEDI to coordinate with ACV to review the space and necessary geometric dimensions to be sufficient to arrange the railway stations and conveniently connect with the passenger terminal and works at Long Thanh International Airport.

These units are also responsible for ensuring that the construction of future railway projects does not affect the structure of Long Thanh International Airport; reporting the results to the Ministry of Transport before March 18, 2024.

According to the plan, Long Thanh International Airport will be connected by a road system and two railway lines including: the high-speed railway on the North-South axis and the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line.

The construction items are implemented according to different projects, in which the Long Thanh International Airport Project is currently in phase 1 construction including the airport area, terminal T1, and connecting traffic axis.

The North-South high-speed railway project is currently preparing a pre-feasibility study report, with 1 passenger station (Long Thanh station) located in the airport area.

The Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway project is preparing a pre-feasibility study report, with 2 stations (S19 and S20) in the airport area.

Specifically, the high-speed railway line on the North-South axis runs underground in the middle along the main axis of Long Thanh International Airport, with 1 station (Long Thanh station) located between the T1 and T2 terminal clusters.

The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line runs underground in the middle along the main axis of Long Thanh International Airport, with station (S19) located between terminals T1 and T2; station (S20) located between terminals T3 and T4.
