However, the draft of the Ministry of Education and Training still requires the third exam subject to "change over the years to achieve the goal of comprehensive education in the basic education stage" or use a combined exam instead.
Specifically, the draft states that high school admission (10th grade entrance exam) is organized according to one of three methods: selection, entrance exam, or a combination of selection and selection.
With the admission method, the basis is the training results and learning results of the years of secondary school general education program or secondary school continuing education program of the admission subject.
With the entrance exam method, the number of subjects is 3 subjects with math, literature and 1 third subject or a combined exam.
Departments of Education and Training can choose one of two options. If choosing the third subject, this subject must be among the subjects that are evaluated by scores and have changed over the years.
If you choose a combined exam, the subjects chosen must be among the subjects that are evaluated by scores.
The time for localities to announce the third subject is before March 31 every year.
Regarding the exam duration of each subject, literature is 120 minutes, math is 90 minutes or 120 minutes, the third subject is 60 minutes or 90 minutes, and the combined exam is 90 minutes or 120 minutes.
The exam content is within the secondary school general education program, mainly grade 9 program.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of October 7, 60/63 Departments of Education and Training agreed with the plan of 3 entrance exams for grade 10 high school and said that this is suitable for reality and reduces pressure.
The draft also introduces a new point policy for adding priority points to grade 10. Priority subjects are divided into 3 groups. Group 1 gets 2 points, group 2 gets 1.5 points, and group 3 gets 1 point.
These subjects are children of martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, children of heroes of the armed forces, children of ethnic minorities, and students living and studying in especially difficult areas.
The 2024-2025 school year is the year that completes the implementation cycle of the 2018 Education Program from grades 1 to 12. Accordingly, this school year, the entrance exam for grade 10 high school and the high school graduation exam will follow the 2018 General Education Program.
In order for localities to have a basis to prepare for the exams, the Ministry of Education and Training has drafted and begun to widely solicit public opinions on the draft Regulations on junior high school and high school entrance exams.
According to the plan, the promulgation of the Regulations on Secondary School and High School Entrance Exams will be 3 months earlier than in previous years.
It is expected that the Circular will be completed and issued before December 31 this year.
