High School Graduation Exam 2024: No leaks or leaked exam questions

On the afternoon of June 28, the Ministry of Education and Training held a press conference on the 2024 high school graduation exam. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, Head of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam, chaired the press conference.

Regarding the issue of leaked exam questions, duplicated materials, blurred exam questions, and controversial questions in the 2024 high school graduation exam, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, informed: "Up to now, we confirm that this year's exam questions have no leaks or omissions.

Regarding the materials used in the exam in recent years, there are clear criteria, educational values and orientations. The exam in general and the English and Literature exams all use reliable materials from reputable books and newspapers.

In addition to the suggestions and marking instructions, there is also an open section. If the candidate answers in the right direction and has a developmental nature, it will be considered for "open marking".

For the blurred exam questions, the Ministry of Education and Training will assign the Dak Lak Provincial Examination Steering Committee to report and have a solution. For controversial questions, the Examination Steering Committee will continue to receive comments and update information."

Talking about the role of the high school graduation exam, Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management, said: "The role of the high school graduation exam is to carry out 3 goals: graduation assessment, assessment of the teaching and learning process of localities and graduation exam scores. The exam aims to assess capacity, application and high application, so the high school graduation exam is still the basis for many universities to use for admission. In fact, currently, schools still use over 65% of the method of considering high school graduation exam scores."

Major General Tran Dinh Chung, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Political Security, Ministry of Public Security, informed: "According to the coordination regulations of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education and Training, many cases have been handled for violating the Examination Regulations; mainly bringing phones and documents into the examination room. This year, the Ministry of Public Security has trained examination officials to recognize cheating devices but has not yet discovered any candidates cheating on the exam using high-tech devices.

Regarding the information about the leaked Literature exam on the evening of June 26, based on information from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Public Security has investigated and found the person who spread this false information. This male student admitted that he made the clip himself and pledged not to repeat the offense. In the future, if more information is discovered, the Ministry of Public Security will investigate and review according to regulations."

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong commented: "This year's exam retains the same structure but has openness and differentiation. During the exam, candidates will be creative and the exams that score 8, 9 and 10 points are those with special breakthroughs, recognized by 2 exam examiners.

The 2025 exam will be different because the materials will be available in many textbooks or outside to help students develop their qualities instead of learning by rote, learning in a biased way, or guessing questions. The exam will ensure less pressure, less time, less cost, but still ensure quality for universities to use, creating conditions for students in remote, isolated, and disadvantaged areas to use the exam results because they do not have the conditions or finances to take many exams.

This is a big exam with high risks, but currently the exam has been organized safely, on schedule, and seriously.

The 2024 high school graduation exam marking process is strict and serious.

This year, the total number of candidates registered for the exam is: 1,071,393. Of which, the number of candidates registered online is 1,014,020, accounting for 94.66% of the total number of candidates; the number of candidates registered directly is 57,373, accounting for 5.34%. The total number of independent candidates is 46,978, accounting for 4.38%.

Total number of test sites: 2,323; total number of test rooms: 45,149. The test sites located in the locality where the candidates study help candidates avoid having to travel far, not having to worry about accommodation, creating a calmer, more confident mindset when taking the test, and at the same time not causing pressure on traffic in big cities.

Although the organization of the 2024 high school graduation exam has been completed, the Ministry of Education and Training will continue to direct, guide and strengthen inspection, examination and supervision to ensure good implementation of the stages of marking, comparing test score data, announcing test results, reviewing test papers, considering high school graduation qualifications for candidates and university and college admissions for Preschool Education in 2024.

Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Van Chuong said that the inspection teams of the National Examination Steering Committee and 63 examination marking inspection teams of the Ministry of Education and Training will inspect the marking work at 63 Examination Councils during this activity to enhance the seriousness of the marking work.

Provinces and centrally-run cities strictly and seriously implement the process of marking essay exams, multiple-choice exams and re-examining exams to ensure compliance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, with cameras monitoring the exam rooms 24/7; Strengthen and consolidate information technology infrastructure to facilitate the announcement of exam results, without network congestion. At the same time, be ready to support candidates in changing their university and college admission wishes after receiving exam results; Implement the consideration of high school graduation recognition for candidates to ensure compliance with regulations. In particular, focus on carefully reviewing exam registration data and considering high school graduation recognition.

Higher education institutions continue to coordinate in inspecting and checking the marking stages of the Exam according to the plan and dispatch of the Ministry of Education and Training; Prepare well the conditions to carry out the enrollment work immediately after the end of the Exam: Provide full information on the school's enrollment; promptly support candidates in answering information related to enrollment; arrange adequate technical facilities and human resources for the enrollment work; operate the enrollment software well; build solutions suitable to the reality of the unit for convenient and effective enrollment.
