Ministry of Education and Training requests urgent report on doctoral degree of Venerable Thich Chan Quang

Today, June 25, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Official Letter No. 3136/BGDĐT-GDĐH signed by Director of the Department of Higher Education Nguyen Thu Thuy, sent to Hanoi Law University requesting a report on the enrollment and training process of graduate student Vuong Tan Viet, aka Venerable Thich Chan Quang. The official letter was stamped with an express stamp.

Urgent dispatch stamped by the Ministry of Education and Training sent to Hanoi Law University requesting a report on the enrollment and training process with PhD student Vuong Tan Viet

The official dispatch of the Ministry of Education and Training stated: "Currently, there is much conflicting information about the enrollment, training and granting of doctoral degrees to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet at Hanoi Law University. To have complete information, the Ministry of Education and Training requests that Hanoi Law University urgently report specifically on the enrollment and training process for doctoral degrees (including the submission of review documents, thesis defense, etc.) and provide evidence for Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's application."

In the dispatch, the Ministry of Education and Training gave the deadline for Hanoi Law University to report on June 26.

As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, this afternoon, June 25, Hanoi Law University sent a press release to media agencies, informing about the doctoral training process of student Vuong Tan Viet, aka Venerable Thich Chan Quang, who caused a stir in public opinion about obtaining a doctoral degree within 2 years while previously only having a part-time university degree in law.

Accordingly, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet was born in 1959, has a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Foreign Languages, now Hanoi University; a second degree in law in the form of part-time study from Hanoi Law University. After that, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet was admitted to the Hanoi Law University for postgraduate study, and after more than 2 years of training, he was awarded a doctorate.

In a press release, Hanoi Law University affirmed that the case of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet, also known as Venerable Thich Chan Quang, being admitted to the doctoral program and being awarded a doctorate degree was in accordance with the law.
