Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Kim Chi and her delegation visited and encouraged the education sector in Yen Bai after the impact of storm No. 3.
As of September 13, 152 educational institutions in Yen Bai province have organized for students to return to school; Yen Bai city and Van Yen and Tran Yen districts have not yet allowed students to return. Yen Bai province has directed the city to concentrate its forces to help schools overcome the consequences of storms and floods to bring students back to school soon; by September 18 at the latest, educational institutions will bring students back to school.
The Department of Education and Training of Yen Bai province estimated the damage at about 56.5 billion VND; 2 teachers in Yen Bai city died due to landslides; 8 students died due to landslides and floods; nearly 23,000 students lost/damaged textbooks and school supplies worth about 11.5 billion VND. School facilities were severely damaged.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Chi requested the Education and Training Department of Yen Bai province to encourage and stabilize the psychology of students, teachers and schools; prepare the best possible conditions to gradually stabilize normal learning; places that are not yet safe should not allow students to return to school. For those who cannot go, there should be plans for tutoring, make-up lessons, etc.; ensure the curriculum framework but be flexible.
The Ministry of Education and Training will work with publishers based on local damage and needs to ensure textbooks for students in the 2024-2025 school year.
The Ministry of Education and Training directly supported the education and training sector of Yen Bai province with 1 billion VND to support teachers and students affected by storms and floods. Hong Ha Stationery Joint Stock Company supported 15,000 sets of school supplies (worth 450 million VND); Vietnam Education Publishing House supported 300 sets of textbooks for students in the flooded areas of Yen Bai.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son and his delegation also visited and worked with the education sector of Tuyen Quang on overcoming the damage caused by storm No. 3.
As of September 13, 292 out of 456 schools in Tuyen Quang province have allowed students to return to school. It is expected that from September 16, all schools will allow students to return to school. In particular, Chiem Hoa Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School is expected to allow students to return to school from September 23 to repair and fix the electricity, water, kitchen and dormitory systems due to long-term flooding. The Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Trade Union have provided support of VND500 million to the Tuyen Quang Department of Education and Training.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong also led a working delegation to visit, work with and support the education sector of Cao Bang province to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3.
Cao Bang province is one of the localities that suffered serious damage to people and property. Up to this point, 10/519 educational establishments have not yet been able to resume classes due to high water levels in rivers and streams and landslides and road cuts.
