Students taking the selection exam for the Hanoi City excellent student team for the 2023-2024 school year.
Regarding the exam, the Ministry of Education and Training stated: "The exam content follows the 2006 High School Education Program and the guidelines for in-depth implementation of specialized subjects at the high school level."
This year's exam is being conducted for the first time under the new regulations for the national excellent student competition, with several notable new features.
Specifically, according to the regulations for the national excellent student competition issued by the Ministry of Education and Training accompanying Circular No. 17 (effective from November), there has been a change in the number of participating students. Each unit can select a maximum of 10 students, except for Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, which can select 20 students.
The Ministry of Education and Training also stipulated that instead of organizing a practical exam session in this examination, the exam questions for physics, chemistry, and biology would include questions requiring candidates to solve problems using knowledge related to experimental and practical skills.
The new regulations also increase the percentage of awards in the national-level gifted student selection exam to ensure compliance with the regulations of regional and international Olympic competitions. Accordingly, 60% of students will receive awards from the honorable mention level upwards (compared to 50% in previous years); of which, the total number of first, second, and third prizes will not exceed 60% of the total number of awards, and the number of first prizes will not exceed 5% of the total number of awards.
The new regulations include a certificate of participation for students in the national-level high school student excellence competition. This certificate is issued to candidates who participated in the competition but did not win any prizes. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this helps students retain long-term personal information about their participation in the competition.
The regulations also strengthen supervision, inspection, and monitoring to effectively implement the state management functions of the Ministry of Education and Training, while enhancing the professional responsibility of scientific experts, lecturers, researchers from academies, research institutes, universities, and high school teachers involved in organizing the exams.
