Ministry of Industry and Trade talks about roadmap for adjusting electricity prices in the following years

ANTD.VN - Electricity prices in 2024 and the following years will be implemented according to Decision No. 05/2024/QD-TTg dated March 26, 2024 of the Prime Minister.

Electricity price increases but cannot exceed 2,444.09 VND/kWh

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that electricity prices in 2024 and the following years will be implemented according to the provisions of Decision No. 05/2024/QD-TTg dated March 26, 2024 of the Prime Minister regulating the mechanism for adjusting average retail electricity prices;

In particular, electricity prices are considered for adjustment if input parameters in the electricity production and supply chain fluctuate objectively and other costs directly serving EVN's electricity production and supply have not been included in the electricity price.

In case the calculated average electricity price decreases by 1% or more compared to the current average electricity price, EVN is responsible for reducing the average electricity price by the corresponding level.

In case the average electricity price needs to be adjusted to increase from 3% to less than 5% compared to the current average electricity price, EVN decides to adjust at the corresponding level. In case the average electricity price needs to be adjusted to increase from 5% to less than 10%, EVN is allowed to adjust at the corresponding level after reporting and being approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In case the average electricity price needs to be adjusted to increase by 10% or more or affect the macroeconomic situation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade shall preside over the inspection, review and consult with the Ministry of Finance and relevant ministries and agencies and synthesize and report to the Prime Minister for consideration and comments.

The adjusted average retail electricity price must be consistent with the price framework prescribed in Decision No. 02/2023/QD-TTg dated February 3, 2023 of the Prime Minister on the price framework of the average retail electricity price (the minimum average retail electricity price is VND 1,826.22/kWh, the maximum is VND 2,444.09/kWh).

On October 11, the average retail electricity price increased by 4.8% compared to the previous year. This is the first price increase in 2024 by EVN. The electricity price increase was implemented after the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced EVN's electricity production and business costs in 2023.

Accordingly, EVN lost more than 34,000 billion VND from electricity production and trading last year.
