Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Industry and Trade Newspaper, moderated a discussion session on promoting digital transformation in the Industry and Trade sector. |
Responding to Mr. Nguyen Van Minh's question about the overall goals of e-commerce and the digital economy, limitations, obstacles, and future development orientations, Ms. Lai Viet Anh affirmed that e-commerce is one of the fields leading the development of the digital economy and digital transformation, which has received special attention from the Party and the State. The master plan for Vietnam's e-commerce in the period of 2021 - 2025 has set many big goals, and so far, although it has not yet reached the end year, it can be said that the set goals have been achieved.
In particular, the growth rate target has reached 20-30%/year. In terms of coverage for people, consumers, and businesses, digital transformation in production and business is very large. In terms of growth rate, the scale of the Vietnamese e-commerce market ranks third in Southeast Asia.
However, according to Ms. Lai Viet Anh, the current growth rate of e-commerce is quite hot, so it may be accompanied by problems such as competition, counterfeit goods, intellectual property violations, and uneven participation of businesses. In addition, e-commerce transactions in localities are currently uneven, mainly concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Therefore, Ms. Lai Viet Anh suggested that local Departments of Industry and Trade and the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade take measures to support local businesses. Especially promoting Vietnamese goods in the online environment, promoting the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods, and competing more strongly with businesses outside Vietnam.
At the seminar, speakers presented orientations for the development of e-commerce and digital economy in the coming time. |
Regarding the future orientation of e-commerce, Ms. Lai Viet Anh said that one of the orientations of the master plan is to develop sustainable e-commerce. This requires a balance in many factors such as: the balance between the interests of consumers and businesses, between large and small businesses, domestic and foreign businesses, etc. to have a market with equal competition. Especially the balance between economic growth goals and social and environmental goals.
The next direction for e-commerce is to develop human resources that meet the requirements. Because in e-commerce, the application of digital technology changes “dizzily”, so the requirements for e-commerce human resources in the new stage must be concerned and developed.
Digital economy makes important contribution to GDP growth
At the seminar, sharing about digital transformation, according to Mr. Tran Minh Tuan - Director of the Department of Digital Economy and Digital Society (Ministry of Information and Communications), this is the 5th year that Vietnam has implemented the National Strategy on Digital Transformation, and the 3rd year that Vietnam has implemented the National Strategy for the Development of Digital Economy and Digital Society.
Vietnam's digital economic growth rate is continuously the highest in Southeast Asia in 2022 and 2023. According to foreign organizations, Vietnam is the leading country in the region in digital economic development with an average growth rate 3 times higher than GDP. The digital economy has made an important contribution to GDP growth.
According to Mr. Tuan, currently, the space for digital economy in all sectors and fields is very large, and the role of promoting ministries and branches is also not small. The Industry and Trade sector has 3 very important fields that need to promote the digital economy in the period of 2025.
The first is promoting e-commerce through digital transformation of wholesale and retail. The second is promoting digital transformation of the industrial sector, especially the processing and manufacturing industry. And the third is digital transformation of the logistics sector.
“ The Ministry of Industry and Trade plays a very important role in promoting the development of the national digital economy. Especially the digital economy of the industry and trade sector, ” said Mr. Tuan.
According to the report "East Asia Digital Economy 2024" published by Google - Temasek on November 5, the estimated size of Vietnam's Internet economy reached 36 billion USD this year, up 16% compared to last year. Retail e-commerce continues to be a pillar, contributing 22 billion USD, up 18% over the same period and accounting for 61% of the total size of the Internet economy. |
