Hundreds of billions of dong and many assets seized in 2 cases of Thuan An and Phuc Son
Responding here, Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Security, said that the two cases of Thuan An and Phuc Son are being highly focused on by the Ministry of Public Security's investigation agency to speed up progress. Regarding the Thuan An case, which was initiated on April 1, 2024, to date, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has prosecuted 8 defendants. Currently, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is continuing to investigate and clarify signs of violations in the bidding and project implementation of Thuan An Group, while focusing on expanding the investigation of the case, thoroughly recovering assets for the State, and proposing strict handling of the defendants' violations. During the investigation, the defendants admitted their violations, voluntarily paid, and mobilized their families to remedy the consequences of the case. To date, 62 billion VND and 40,000 USD related to the violations of the defendants and people involved in the case have been seized. According to General Tuyen, the Steering Committee did not request a deadline for the case, but the viewpoint of the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is to complete it as soon as possible. Regarding the Phuc Son case, General Tuyen said that prosecuted on February 26, 2024, up to now 23 defendants have been prosecuted to investigate and clarify the violations. This is an extremely complicated case, involving many localities, with a large amount of information and documents. Regarding asset recovery, according to General Tuyen, up to now the investigation agency has seized over 300 billion VND, nearly 2 million USD, over 500 taels of gold and more than 1,000 red books. Currently, the investigation agency is consolidating documents and evidence, at the same time expanding the investigation, recovering lost and misappropriated assets, and clarifying the violations of a number of defendants and related people. According to Mr. Tuyen, the Steering Committee has not determined a deadline for completing the investigation in this case, but the investigation agency is concentrating its forces to investigate and complete it soon.New information phase 2 of Van Thinh Phat case
Regarding the expansion of the investigation into the case related to Van Thinh Phat Group, General Tuyen stated that the high court in Ho Chi Minh City is currently preparing to hear the first phase of the appeal trial of the case. Mr. Tuyen informed that after the first phase ended, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency will continue to expand the investigation of the case. Up to now, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has issued an investigation conclusion and proposed to prosecute 34 defendants in the case of fraud, property appropriation, money laundering, and illegal transportation of money across the border. Thus, the case has been expanded and the investigation results of phase 2 have been completed. In addition, the Investigation Police Agency is also investigating according to the provisions of the law in the case of giving and receiving bribes, taking advantage of positions while performing official duties that occurred in Lam Dong province and other localities. "This is an expansion of the case that occurred at Van Thinh Phat and SCB. In this case, the Investigation Police Agency has initiated an investigation against 9 defendants," Mr. Tuyen added. Regarding the Phuc Son case, Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Nguyen Huu Dong said that so far 23 defendants have been prosecuted, including 6 officials under the Central management, including 1 secretary, 1 former secretary, 1 standing deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, 2 chairmen, 1 former chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. Regarding the Phuc Son case, Mr. Dong said that the investigation agency has temporarily seized a total amount of money and assets of more than 315 billion VND, 1.97 million USD, 534 taels of gold and 1,444 land use right certificates. Regarding the Thuan An case, according to Mr. Dong, 8 defendants have been prosecuted, including 2 officials under the Central management, including 1 provincial Party Committee secretary and 1 deputy head of the National Assembly Office. Regarding the Van Thinh Phat Group case, according to Mr. Dong, for the first time, a defendant who is a private business owner was sentenced to death for embezzlement of property, in addition, there were 4 life sentences, among the defendants sentenced to fixed terms of imprisonment, 17 defendants were given suspended sentences. According to Mr. Dong, the Central Steering Committee requested to speed up the verification and investigation to clarify acts of corruption and appropriation in cases and incidents with signs of corruption and economic violations. Resolutely handle the prosecuted cases, especially the cases and incidents related to Thuan An, Phuc Son, Van Thinh Phat Groups... and the cases and incidents related to the personnel of the Party congresses at all levels. Along with that, urgently complete the conclusions of the inspection and examination of the topics and incidents according to the direction of the Steering Committee (such as the cases that occurred in Thuan An, Phuc Son...).
