Ministry of Public Security approves auction of 188,399 additional car license plates

On March 8, the Traffic Police Department announced that the Ministry of Public Security has just approved the third auction plan for car license plates with 188,399 license plates from all provinces and cities.

The third auction plan will be listed from March 11, the starting price of a car license plate to be auctioned is 40 million VND, the deposit is equal to this starting price.

Like the previous two sessions, the auctions took place online, with the starting price for each auction being 5 million VND.

The car license plate with five 9s is holding the auction record at over 75 billion VND.

The Ministry of Public Security affirmed that all Vietnamese organizations and individuals are eligible to participate in the auction of car license plates according to the provisions of Decree No. 39/2023/ND-CP dated June 26, 2023 detailing a number of articles of Resolution No. 73/2022/QH15 dated November 15, 2022 of the National Assembly on pilot auction of car license plates and other relevant legal provisions.

For the asset auction organization, the service fee for each auctioned car license plate is calculated at 8% of the starting price. In addition, the auction fee paid to the asset auction organization is 10,000 VND/car license plate put up for auction.

Within 15 days from the date of announcement of auction results, the auction winner must deposit the entire auction winning amount (after deducting the deposit) into the specialized collection account of the Ministry of Public Security.

According to the list of 188,399 car license plates put up for auction for the third time, Hanoi has the largest number of license plates with 27,300 license plates, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 17,970 license plates.

The Ministry of Public Security said that after more than 4 months of auctioning car license plates (from September 15, 2023 to the end of February 2024), the total amount of successful auctions was more than 2,052 billion VND. Of which, 14,062 winning license plates were paid by customers for a total of nearly 1,400 billion VND, and nearly 840 billion VND was collected to pay to the State budget.

"The auction of car license plates has met the needs of the people, created fairness for those in need, and at the same time, effectively exploited public assets, increasing revenue for the State budget," the Ministry of Public Security acknowledged.
