Opening the final round of the Solana Super Game Jam 2024 programming competition organized by Supperteam on December 16, Mr. Anh Tran, representative of Superteam Southeast Asia, reviewed the overall picture of the global game market and the position of the Vietnamese game industry on the international map.
Mr. Anh Tran said that the world gaming market in 2023 witnessed an unprecedented boom with nearly 3.2 billion gamers. Mobile games are contributing a significant part with an estimated revenue of about 92 billion USD. Simple, easy-to-play games like hyper-casual continue to attract customers, while game streaming platforms like Google Stadia and xCloud are opening a new era for mobile games.
Position of Vietnamese games
In the context of the rapid growth of the gaming industry, Vietnam is not left out of the game. Data from Bloomberg shows that Vietnam is in the top 5 countries producing the world's leading mobile games, based on downloads in the first half of 2023.
Meanwhile, Google statistics show that one out of every 10 top games is produced in Vietnam. Vietnamese games have 4.2 billion downloads worldwide, a growth rate 2.5 times higher than the world average.

According to Mr. Anh Tran, over the years, the Vietnamese gaming industry has achieved remarkable achievements. However, to be able to compete in the international market, studios need to constantly innovate and seek more breakthrough technologies. Blockchain and Web3 with outstanding advantages in transparency, security and decentralization will be the new wave of the Vietnamese gaming industry.
A leap from traditional games
According to Mr. Thai Thanh Liem, founder and CEO of Topebox, blockchain games in Vietnam started in mid-2021 and have now formed a certain community of players and developers.
With more than 18 years of experience in the field of mobile game publishing, Mr. Liem believes that the trend of shifting to blockchain games by Vietnamese developers is quite clear and reasonable.
"The partial shift of game developers is appropriate, helping Vietnam catch up with the world's development in the blockchain field. Compared to the high competitiveness of the traditional game market, blockchain is bringing a new breeze to Vietnamese games. Developers have more playgrounds, supported by many strong ecosystems," Mr. Liem assessed.

Meanwhile, the representative of Superteam Southeast Asia assessed the quality of representatives participating in game hackathons from Vietnam as always outstanding in terms of creativity, unique gameplay ideas, eye-catching graphics and quick application of emerging technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence) and blockchain.
New potential of Vietnamese games
Looking at Super Game Jam 2024, Mr. Anh Tran believes that one of Vietnam's biggest advantages is having a large and vibrant gaming community, creating a potential domestic market for new products. "Vietnam also has a talented programmer force ready to meet the human resource needs of the blockchain game industry, at a competitive cost compared to other countries," Mr. Anh Tran commented.
Topebox CEO pointed out that the great advantage of Vietnamese games is the open and cooperative spirit of domestic companies. They are always active in community activities to share knowledge and relationships to increase opportunities for cooperation and mutual support.
"Companies like NE, Ronin, A8 or Solana are very active in finding and supporting projects from Vietnamese teams," said Mr. Liem.
Experts agree that the position of Vietnamese blockchain games has changed a lot this year. Compared to 2021, the market has witnessed many large-scale projects, with more serious and longer-term investments. Along with that, the management agency has been more open to the gaming industry, some universities have departments specializing in gaming, and the new national blockchain strategy issued by the government will be great driving forces, promoting the Vietnamese gaming industry, especially blockchain games will explode in the near future.
According to Mr. Anh Tran, to develop the gaming market sustainably, there needs to be close cooperation between developers, investors, state management agencies and the gaming community. At the same time, building a strong blockchain ecosystem is also an important factor.
"Hackathon competitions are becoming a 'training ground' for young people to practice their skills, connect with the community and seek international cooperation opportunities. Many unique game ideas are also supported and successfully commercialized. This contributes to enriching the market and affirming Vietnam's position on the international gaming map," said a representative of Superteam Southeast Asia.
