Crypto wallets are tools that allow users to store digital assets such as cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). However, if not careful, users of cryptocurrency wallets can become victims of scammers specializing in stealing cryptocurrency (crypto drainers).
The cryptocurrency wallet developer Leather has issued a warning about a fake app impersonating their wallet on the App Store. The company stated that they do not offer any similar services on the iOS platform. Therefore, users could have their digital assets stolen by using this fake tool.
"If you have entered your secret key phrase into this fake app, you need to quickly transfer your cryptocurrency to another wallet," Leather warned, emphasizing, "Critics could exploit this information to steal all of your digital assets."
BleepingComputer reports that several users have claimed to have had their cryptocurrency stolen after using a fake Leather wallet. They assert that they downloaded the app from the App Store without knowing it was fake and that it has not yet been disabled.
To steal digital assets, fraudsters still use familiar tricks such as posting about apps and then giving fake "5-star" reviews to deceive users.
Along with "high-star" ratings, articles about the fake app also contain many "positive comments," but in reality, they are all orchestrated from start to finish by scammers.
