Binh Thuan: GRDP per capita over 100 million VND/year

On the evening of April 19, the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Thuan province held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Binh Thuan province. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai.

Strong transformation

In his speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Binh Thuan Province, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Anh - Secretary of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee - said that despite suffering many losses in two long resistance wars, Binh Thuan still maintained its indomitable spirit, contributing to the defeat of all war strategies of the US imperialists. From the Mau Than General Offensive in 1968 to the victory at the Paris negotiation table, Binh Thuan has carved its name in the nation's history as a loyal, heroic land with a shining revolutionary tradition.

Over the past 50 years, especially after 33 years of re-establishing Binh Thuan province (from 1992 to present), Binh Thuan has strived to rise from a poor province with an underdeveloped economy , low budget revenue, weak infrastructure, and many difficulties in people's lives, to now having developed quite comprehensively.

According to the Secretary of Binh Thuan, the annual economic growth rate (GRDP) in the area has always been quite good. By the end of 2024, the economic scale of Binh Thuan province will be more than 33 times larger than when the province was re-established in 1992, reaching more than 128,700 billion VND, ranking 26th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. GRDP per capita will reach more than 100 million VND, and per capita income in 2024 will reach nearly 59 million VND - 43.6% higher than in 1992.

In the past 10 years, Binh Thuan has strongly innovated its growth model, rapidly transformed its economic structure, improved productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness; focused on developing three economic pillars in the direction of reducing the proportion of agriculture , increasing the proportion of industry and services...

“Looking to the future, in the context of merging provincial administrative units, we will have more brothers to unite, be of one mind, and join hands to overcome difficulties and challenges, promote potential and advantages in a larger space to develop more strongly for the prosperity and happiness of the people, for the growth of the country in the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise,” Mr. Hoai Anh affirmed.

To do that, the Secretary of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee said that it is necessary to coordinate well, resolutely and drastically to carry out the work of arranging and streamlining the organizational apparatus to ensure strictness, science, objectivity and efficiency; coordinate to develop directions to promote economic development, taking science and technology and innovation as the main driving force; focus on developing transport infrastructure connecting localities; promote the development of energy industry, processing industry, manufacturing, mining associated with environmental protection, promote the development of high-tech application industry.

Aim to become a national energy center

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh emphasized that entering a new phase, Binh Thuan should not only stop at the achievements it has achieved but also aim for higher goals, such as becoming a national energy center, an international tourism center, developing a sustainable marine economy, building a modern urban area in harmony with nature, and improving the quality of life for the people.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested Binh Thuan province to focus on organizing Party Congresses at all levels in accordance with Directive No. 45 of the Politburo; promote democracy, strengthen solidarity within the Party, resolutely and promptly implement the Central Government's policies on restructuring and streamlining the apparatus, and building a two-level government model. Binh Thuan needs to effectively promote the main growth drivers of the economy; develop based on the balance between urban and rural areas, industry and agriculture, mainland and islands, and strive for a double-digit GRDP growth rate from 2025 onwards.

The locality needs to exploit and make the most of its potential and advantages in terms of geographical location and natural landscape for sustainable economic development. Focus on developing industries, attracting investment in developing key industries and high-tech agricultural projects; pay attention to environmental protection, responding to climate change and building and developing a green, circular and sustainable economy.
