14 fishermen on a fishing boat from Binh Dinh province sank while passing through the waters of Binh Thuan province. Rescue efforts are currently underway.
On the morning of November 20, information from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Binh Thuan province said that at about 3:30 a.m. the same day, at coordinates 10°53'N - 110°32'E (about 206 nautical miles East Northeast of Vung Tau Cape; about 92 nautical miles Northeast of Phu Quy Island), fishing boat BD 98268TS (Binh Dinh province) with 14 workers on board, was flooded and sank. Currently, the crew members are trying to cling to the floating part of the boat.
After receiving the information, the Binh Thuan Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue requested the Provincial Border Guard Command to monitor, direct, and inform border posts in the area, Squadron 2, and mobilize Binh Thuan fishing boats operating near the area of fishing boat BD 98268TS to promptly rescue the victims.
At the same time, it is requested that the Phan Thiet Coastal Information Station and the Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority broadcast search and rescue information so that ships and boats in the area or passing by the coordinates of the sunken fishing boat BD 98268TS can know and increase support and rescue...
According to initial information, fishing boat BD 98268 TS has 14 workers, owned and captained by Mr. Huynh Van Ban (born in 1986, residing in Thien Chanh 1 quarter, Tam Quan Bac ward, Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province). Fishing boat BD 98268 TS operates a purse seine, departing on November 3, 2023 from Tam Quan Border Control Station.
* According to the Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Binh Dinh Province, at 12:30 p.m. on the same day (November 20), a Coast Guard ship was departing from the estuary of Binh Thuan Province to approach the scene and rescue the fishermen in distress. Tam Quan Border Guard Station is contacting the family of the ship owner to coordinate and support the search.
It is known that the sea area where fishing boat BD 98268 TS sank had bad weather, showers and strong northeast winds of level 6 to level 8, and waves from 4 to 6 meters high.
Ms. Le Thi Phuong (35 years old, wife of the owner of fishing boat BD 98268 TS) said that her family received news that her husband's fishing boat had an accident that morning. Currently, the family is coordinating with the authorities and contacting other ships operating nearby to support the rescue. The wife of the boat owner added that the family is waiting for information from the rescue work and is very worried.
