On August 18, Chon Thanh Town Police, Binh Phuoc Province, announced that they had issued an order to temporarily detain Tran Ngoc Oanh (born in 1995, residing in Tuy An District, Phu Yen Province) to investigate and clarify the acts of "Illegal storage and transportation of narcotics", "Illegal storage and use of military weapons and resisting people on duty".
Initial information, on the morning of August 17, Oanh was hired by an unknown person in Go Dau district, Tay Ninh province to transport drugs to Dak Song district, Dak Nong province. When the taxi hired by Oanh was traveling on Highway 751, Hieu Cam quarter, Hung Long ward, Chon Thanh town, the driver was speeding so the Traffic Police Department of Chon Thanh town signaled to stop the car and asked the driver to show his documents.
During the inspection, the traffic police suspected Oanh of being a criminal, so they asked her to get out of the car for an administrative check. Seeing this, the subject suddenly pushed a traffic police officer down, took a revolver (a type loaded with bullets, commonly known as a pistol) and a leather wallet from his backpack and ran away. At that time, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tan Van, Head of Dong Phu Traffic Police Station under the Traffic Police Department of Binh Phuoc Provincial Police, and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tan Trieu, Captain of the Traffic Police Team of Chon Thanh Town Police, passed by and discovered the incident, and together with the working group, they coordinated to chase the subject.
After running for nearly 1km, Oanh stopped at a house on the side of the road and threw her wallet into the house. At the same time, she pointed her gun at Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tan Van and pulled the trigger, but the gun jammed. Immediately, the traffic police rushed in to arrest the subject.
At the scene, the police seized a revolver, a bullet and several plastic bags containing crystal meth. Initially, the subject confessed that he was hired to transport the drugs from Tay Ninh province to Dak Nong province for a fee of 10 million VND.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tan Van, at the time of the incident, he and his younger brother, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tan Trieu, were off duty and happened to pass by the scene. While coordinating with the task force to chase the suspect, when they were only 5 meters away, Oanh suddenly pulled out a gun, pointed it at him and pulled the trigger.
