GO! Vinh Phuc supermarket always ensures the supply of pork products to meet the consumption needs of the people.
Observations at many markets in the province show that since the Lunar New Year, pork prices have increased significantly compared to before the holiday. Specifically, pork belly costs over 150,000 VND/kg, pork loin over 130,000 VND/kg... Live pigs are currently being purchased by traders at 70,000 VND/kg.
According to many pork traders at Dinh Trung Market, Vinh Yen Market, etc. (Vinh Yen), the high price of live pigs has not only slowed down consumption but also made it very difficult to purchase pigs for slaughter due to market scarcity.
Due to the rising price of pork, people are tending to tighten their spending. While pork used to be a common food for families, now, with the high price, many people are choosing other foods such as chicken and fish, which are more affordable.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Chung, a pork vendor at Dinh Trung market, said that the increase in pork prices since Tet (Lunar New Year) is due to reduced supply; most farmers had already sold their pigs during the Tet holiday and are now in the process of restocking. Since the price increase, the amount of pork sold at her stall has decreased by one-third compared to before, and consumption has also slowed down. Due to limited supply, many vendors have had to import smaller quantities than before.
At Go! Vinh Phuc supermarkets, Co.opmart Vinh Phuc, Winmart+ chain stores, etc., the prices of some types of pork have increased to a level comparable to that of traditional markets, but the quantity of these items remains abundant. These establishments ensure there is no shortage or price surge, meeting consumer demand.
According to statistics, by the end of March 2025, the total pig herd in the province increased by 2.07% thanks to the relatively high price of live pigs, and many farmers restocked their herds after Tet; the total amount of live pig meat sold in the first three months of this year reached over 25,500 tons, an increase of 2.89% compared to the same period in 2024.
In response to the rising price of pork affecting domestic production and consumption, and to stabilize the market and prevent violations in the production and trading of pork, the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) has issued a document requesting the Departments of Industry and Trade in provinces and cities to direct their Market Management Sub-departments to strengthen local management, implement operational measures to monitor the market situation, supply and demand trends, and pork prices, in order to develop inspection and supervision plans and propose solutions to contribute to market stability.
Actively coordinate with relevant authorities in the area to closely monitor pork prices, inspect and control businesses, wholesale and retail outlets, markets, supermarkets, and shopping centers to control supply and prices, and prevent violations related to price listing, speculation, hoarding, and unreasonable pricing of pork. Strengthen inspections and prevent the transportation and trading of pork without clear origin and source; strictly handle violations by organizations and individuals in accordance with the law.
Currently, the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province are continuing to work with relevant units and businesses to prepare a plan to ensure a sufficient and timely supply of pork to meet the needs of the people, preventing shortages or disruptions in the supply that could lead to unreasonable price increases.
On the other hand, retail stores are also supplementing and increasing the supply of other livestock meat products to give consumers more choices in their daily consumption. Authorities also requested businesses in the province to develop plans to stockpile goods at reasonable prices, ensuring sufficient supply; and to flexibly implement promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand.
