At the meeting, a representative of the Department of Planning and Investment said that there was a feasibility study report on the investment project to build the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway project through Binh Duong province.

Accordingly, the project will pass through Thuan An City, Tan Uyen City, Bac Tan Uyen District, Phu Giao District and Bau Bang District, with a total length of about 52.1 km. The starting point of this expressway section is at Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City (in Thuan An City), the end point is at the border of Binh Duong Province and Binh Phuoc Province.

In phase 1, the expressway will be invested with a scale of 4 lanes, with continuous emergency lanes along the entire route, a roadbed width of 25.5m, a design speed of 100km/h, expected to be prepared and constructed from 2023-2027.

The project will be invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract with a total estimated investment of VND8,833 billion.

In addition to the road section, the project will have 26 bridge works built, including: 16 bridges on highways over streams and level crossings; 5 bridges on level crossings over highways; 5 bridges on branch roads at intersections.

Ho Chi Minh City – Thu Dau Mot – Chon Thanh Expressway is the North-South expressway axis of Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc provinces, connecting Gia Nghia ( Dak Nong ) – Chon Thanh (Binh Phuoc) expressway.

As a province with rapid economic development and located in the southern key economic zone, Binh Duong still does not have a highway to connect with Ho Chi Minh City and other localities in the region. The current connection is only through national and provincial highways, which are in a state of overload.

Currently, in addition to the Ho Chi Minh City – Chon Thanh – Thu Dau Mot expressway project which is in the feasibility study reporting stage, a number of other projects in this area, such as Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 and Ring Road 4, are under construction.
