In the Japanese capital Tokyo, hundreds of people, mostly Palestinians, took to the streets to march, chanting slogans expressing support and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Protesters gathered near Shibuya Station, holding banners and Palestinian flags, and calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. According to organizers, this was the first Palestinian protest march in Japan.
On the same day, thousands of people participated in a protest in the Spanish capital Madrid, criticizing Israel's attacks in Gaza and calling on the Spanish government to recognize the State of Palestine and sever relations with Israel.
The protest took place in the context that the Republic of Ireland and several other EU member states have planned to recognize the State of Palestine on May 21.
Notably, in the city of Malmo, southern Sweden - where the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 is taking place, about 3,000 Palestinian supporters gathered to protest against the Israeli representative participating in this famous music contest, forcing local police to deploy additional measures to ensure security.
