(CLO) Protests have erupted in China following the death of a student at a vocational school in Shaanxi, China.
The protests were sparked by the death of a third-year student named Dang Changxin. Local authorities in Pucheng have declared Dang's death on January 2 an accident rather than a crime, but various allegations have circulated on social media.

In verified videos, dozens of protesters are seen confronting a wall of riot police outside Pucheng Vocational Technical School, with some throwing batons and other objects at police. One of the protesters is seen throwing a fire extinguisher at a door, shattering the glass. Police struggled to contain the situation.
In a statement released by state media late last week, local authorities claimed Dang “got into a verbal and physical argument” with a freshman surnamed Guo for “disturbing his sleep” in the dormitory.
At around 3 a.m., another student in Dang’s dormitory went into the bathroom and found a wooden chair under the balcony window, the statement said. “The sliding window was open, and the metal mesh was removed. Dang fell from the window to the ground below,” the statement said. Authorities said the case was a suicide, and the investigation was closed within 24 hours.
