Promoting the role of the elderly in economic success
The 4th National Conference on Commending Outstanding Elderly People with Good Economic Performance organized by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly was attended by many senior leaders such as Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member, Prime Minister; former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan; President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, along with comrades of the Party Central Committee, former members of the Party Central Committee; representatives of leaders of central departments, ministries, branches, and organizations, and especially 346 delegates of outstanding elderly people with good economic performance and representatives of leaders of the Association of the Elderly in localities.
The conference aims to commend and honor the elderly who have been participating in economic development, making an important contribution to the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland with the message: "Promoting the role of the elderly in doing good business, actively participating in digital transformation, green transformation, contributing to building a prosperous and happy country".
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh said that this conference honored 273 outstanding elderly delegates with good economic performance, representing over 7 million elderly people participating in labor, production and business nationwide.
“These are shining examples, determined to strive to become rich legitimately, develop the economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, actively participate in ensuring social security and pioneer in digital transformation, green transformation, and circular economy. These groups and individuals have made many contributions to the cause of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly,” said the Chairman of the Association of the Elderly.

Elderly people accompany local development
As the recipient of the fourth certificate of merit for “Outstanding Elderly People with Good Economic Performance in the Country”, 2018-2023 period, Ms. Nguyen Nam Phuong, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Lan Anh Company Limited, was commended for her outstanding achievements in production, business and social charity work for many consecutive years, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
She shared: "I always keep in mind that doing business is not only for myself but also to create jobs for many people, develop the locality, and accompany the poor."
Lan Anh Company Limited is a 100% private company, established in 2006. Fields of operation: Production of pure drinking water, production of all kinds of bricks, afforestation, agricultural production, real estate business, construction of civil works, investment in construction of new rural infrastructure.
Since 2006, Ba Ria town (now Ba Ria city) has been a sparsely populated area, with unsynchronized rural infrastructure and difficult living conditions for people. Participating in the effort to invest in residential areas in rural areas, in remote areas with the goal of developing new rural areas, Lan Anh Company has pioneered in investing in social housing and low-income housing in communes of Ba Ria city, Chau Duc district, Dat Do district of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Thereby, contributing to turning Hoa Long commune, Long Phuoc commune (Ba Ria city) and Nghia Thanh commune (Chau Duc district) from deserted, sparsely populated areas into livable places with a "Green-clean-beautiful" landscape environment, closed residential areas, synchronous infrastructure, and full essential services.
Ms. Nguyen Nam Phuong shared that she is always concerned and mindful of the unfortunate lives and difficult circumstances that still exist in life, so she actively participates in and advocates for charitable activities.

In 2020, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out, she decided to donate a portion of her business and personal profits to support the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic in two batches, including cash and goods worth over 11 billion VND, to join hands in the fight against the epidemic. In 2021, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out again, she continued to donate money and goods for epidemic prevention and control with a budget of over 18 billion VND.
In 2022 - 2023, Lan Anh Company continues to support the social security fund and the fund for the poor with 25 billion VND. In 2023 alone, it donated to Ba Ria City more than 6,000m2 of land to build a resettlement area for Hoa Long commune and build roads worth about more than 7 billion VND.
In addition, Ms. Nguyen Nam Phuong also voluntarily donated land and funds to build rural roads for people in Nghia Thanh commune, Chau Duc district and Hoa Long commune, Ba Ria city; supported the construction of houses of gratitude, charity, supported funds for the poor, disabled children, granted scholarships to studious students, supported wounded soldiers, supported the poor to celebrate Tet; supported the repair, renovation, construction of residential groups, hamlet management boards, purchased equipment for schools, cultural houses, renovation works, spiritual works... her personal expenses each year for these activities amount to tens of billions of VND.
Along with Ms. Nguyen Nam Phuong, more than 270 elderly people were honored as shining examples not only in terms of economy and good production labor but also in many contributions to humanitarian charity work, dedication to the community, in line with the message of the Conference "Promoting the role of the elderly in good economic performance, actively participating in digital transformation, green transformation, contributing to building a prosperous and happy country".
