Quang Ngai Border Guard rescues foreign sailor with acute appendicitis

In the early morning of April 19, the Dung Quat Port Border Guard Station (Quang Ngai Border Guard Command) and Dung Quat Port authorities coordinated to promptly provide emergency aid to a foreign crew member suffering from acute appendicitis and renal colic.

At around 2:30 p.m. on April 18, while traveling at sea from Quang Ninh to the southern provinces (Vietnam), the transport ship Ivestos 6, captained by Mr. Edwin S. Magtoto, a Filipino, discovered that crew member Wensie S. Bandao, a Filipino, was suffering from severe abdominal pain.

The captain prescribed medication as advised by the doctor, but the patient's pain did not go away and there was a risk of developing generalized peritonitis. The captain requested medical assistance from the Dung Quat Port Authority (Quang Ngai).

The Border Guard urgently brought the ship to the location where the Ivestos 6 ship was anchored, transporting the patient to shore.

Upon receiving the news, the Dung Quat Port Border Guard Station urgently coordinated with the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority and Dung Quat Port Customs to use a mobile canoe to the location where the Ivestos 6 ship was anchored to transport the patient to shore, and at the same time requested the Provincial Border Guard Command to mobilize vehicles and doctors to move to Dung Quat Port for on-call support.

At 3:00 a.m. on April 19, the Dung Quat Port Border Guard Station and Dung Quat Port authorities brought crew member Wensie S.Bandao to Gemadept Dung Quat Port. The medical team examined and provided first aid and took the patient to the hospital for treatment.
