According to the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, despite the drastic and synchronous implementation of key and urgent tasks and solutions to combat IUU fishing, there are still some cases of disconnection, the handling of records of disconnected fishing vessels and those moored on shore is not strict; propaganda work has not achieved high efficiency; handling of violations has not been thorough, not meeting the requirements of combating IUU fishing...

To address this situation, the Border Guard Command recently directed the Border Guards of 28 provinces and cities to establish a specialized team to combat IUU fishing; the Provincial People's Committee has also completed the Steering Committee to combat IUU fishing and established 4 verification teams to handle fishing vessels that lose connection for more than 6 hours to less than 10 days.

Colonel Dang Cao Dat, Commander of the Border Guard of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, said that the European Commission (EC) is expected to conduct the fifth inspection around September or October 2024 on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This is the final stage for Vietnam to overcome the EC's warnings to remove the "yellow card" on fisheries.

Faced with the above situation, the Standing Committee and Party Committee of the Provincial Border Guard Command decided to establish a specialized team to combat IUU fishing, with the Commander as Team Leader and the Political Commissar as Permanent Deputy Team Leader, to decisively direct and promptly handle situations.

As of September 20, the whole province had 4,345 fishing boats, of which units in the provincial Border Guard had updated the software "managing, controlling fishing boats and sending communication messages to boat owners" for 3,519 boats, reaching 81%.

There are currently 826 fishing boats that have not been updated because some have been sold outside the province, sunk or rotted. Regarding the "3 no" fishing boats: no registration, no inspection, no license, there are 1,140 boats in the province, of which 15 boats have updated documents, 575 boats are carrying out procedures for issuing documents.

The Border Guard of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has mobilized 3 boat crews, 3 canoes and 25 officers to focus on reviewing, verifying, consolidating, supplementing complete records, and thoroughly resolving cases of IUU fishing vessels, resolutely not allowing fishing vessels to leave port without complete documents.
