ANTD.VN - While many banks continue to increase their staff to serve business operations, many banks are cutting hundreds, even thousands of employees to reduce costs.
In 2024, BIDV is the bank with the sharpest reduction in personnel size. According to statistics, by the end of 2024, the total number of employees of this bank was 26,069 people, a decrease of about 1,100 people compared to the previous year.
However, the cost for employees increased quite sharply to about 1,200 billion VND, up to 14,670 billion VND. BIDV did not announce the average income of employees, but according to calculations, with the above expenditure figures, the average level for each officer and employee of this bank (including salary and allowances, salary contributions and other expenses) if not taking into account the factor of personnel fluctuations during the year could be over 46 million VND/month. This number is much higher than the average of the previous year - about over 41 million VND.

Another bank that also saw a sharp decrease in its workforce is Sacombank. At the end of 2024, Sacombank had 17,058 employees, down nearly 300 from 17,412 at the end of 2023. However, total employee expenses (salaries, allowances, salary-based contributions, etc.) at Sacombank also increased to VND7,022 billion, from VND6,489 billion in 2023.
Thus, the average expenditure for each Sacombank officer and employee in 2024 will be around more than 34 million VND/month, compared to 31 million VND in 2023.
Similarly, at ACB, in 2024, the bank also reduced nearly 400 employees, from 13,224 at the end of 2023 to 12,847 at the end of 2024. Employee expenses were VND 6,217.5 billion, a sharp increase compared to VND 5,975.5 billion last year. According to the bank's announcement, the average income of officers and employees in 2024 reached VND 454 million/year, equivalent to nearly VND 38 million/month; an increase compared to VND 36.5 million/month of the previous year.
Meanwhile, in the opposite direction, many banks continue to add human resources. Of which, VPBank has the strongest increase with more than 1,400 employees recruited from the parent bank alone, bringing the bank's staff size to more than 15,000 people by the end of 2024. According to VPBank's announcement, the average income of this bank's employees is more than 31 million VND/month in 2024, 1 million VND higher than the previous year.
Similarly, HDBank also increased its workforce by nearly 1,000 in 2024, to approximately 10,600 people. Employee costs at this bank also increased by nearly one and a half times, to VND5,648 billion.
Vietcombank also has a strong increase in the number of employees with about 700,000 more people in 2024, up to more than 23,500 people. VietinBank has a more modest increase of about 150 people, up to nearly 22,450 people.
LPBank had nearly 11,200 employees at the end of 2024, an increase of nearly 600 compared to the end of 2023. The average number of employees per year was 11,505, an increase of more than 300 compared to last year. The average monthly income was VND 22.82 million, down from VND 24.1 million/month last year.
At SHB, the total number of bank employees at the end of 2024 is 6,127 people, a sharp increase of more than 370 people compared to last year. Employee expenses also increased by nearly 400 billion VND, to 3,606 billion VND.
Or MSB at the end of 2024 has 6,404 people, an increase of nearly 300 people compared to the end of 2023 (6,013 people). Average monthly income is 33.64 million VND, an increase compared to 29.08 million VND last year.
It is predicted that in 2025, the banking workforce will continue to fluctuate strongly. Since the beginning of this year, many large banks such as BIDV, VietinBank, MB, SHB... have launched recruitment campaigns of up to thousands of people, not only in big cities but also in many branches in provinces and cities.
However, it is known that many banks are also planning to drastically cut staff, with the cut rate in some places reaching about 30% to reduce costs.
