Few people expected that, from those simple sounds, a farmer has created for himself a stable and effective economic model - that is Mr. Bui Van Phi, residing in Ward 3, Tan Bien town.
Starting from a simple passion, Mr. Phi initially raised only a few pairs of doves to listen to their relaxing crowing. After many selections and crossbreeding between Thai and Malay birds, he has created a breed of birds that are both beautiful in appearance and meet the sound criteria suitable for the tastes of domestic bird players.
He shared: “The more I raise birds, the more I love them. From just playing around, I realized I could develop it into a career. Especially when friends came to my house to ask to buy birds, I thought: if I do it seriously, I can totally make a living from this job.”
Currently, Mr. Phi owns more than 100 pairs of parent birds raised in a solid, scientific cage system. Each pair of birds lays 10-12 clutches/year, each clutch of 1-2 eggs. The chicks can be sold after 25-30 days.
On average, Mr. Phi sells 10-20 breeding birds each month, with prices ranging from 1 million to 1.5 million VND/bird, depending on quality and sound. Male birds with good crowing are valued higher and are highly sought after by bird enthusiasts.
During peak season, revenue can reach 70-80 million VND/month. After deducting expenses, income is stable at 100-150 million VND/year. Mr. Phi shared: "Working at home, having extra income to take care of my family and children's education, that is enough satisfaction for me."
Not keeping secrets to himself, Phi actively shares techniques on social networks, especially through his personal YouTube channel. He is also willing to guide beginners, as long as they are passionate and persistent in pursuing them.
“Doves are easy to raise but require careful observation. You have to choose the breed carefully and check the crowing sound before breeding to ensure quality. Once you have a reputation, the output will be stable and the bird-keeping community will have more trust,” said Mr. Phi.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huyen - Chairman of Tan Bien Town Farmers' Association commented: "This is an effective model, suitable for urban conditions - does not require a large area, does not cause pollution, and brings high income. We are supporting Mr. Phi to complete the profile to select good farmers and businessmen".
In the context of increasingly narrowing agricultural land, the model of breeding doves is a feasible direction for urban residents; taking advantage of gardens and porches to make cages, which is both light and has economic and spiritual value.
The story of Mr. Bui Van Phi is a clear demonstration of the creativity and efforts of modern farmers - where passion is nurtured by perseverance and spread by faith.
