Uterine perforation complications due to unsafe abortion

Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Danh Cuong, Director of the Central Obstetrics Hospital, said that there had been cases of abortion using tree branches, which were dried by the wind and then placed in the cervix. In Western medicine, there are currently safe abortion methods, but they can only be performed at medical facilities with qualified expertise and equipment, including strict sterile conditions.

"As for causing abortions with tree branches or roots or unsafe abortions, it will cause uterine perforation, uterine rupture, causing very serious infections in women and girls, leading to having to remove the uterus due to generalized peritonitis, sepsis, which is extremely unsafe," Associate Professor Cuong worried.

The Director of the Central Obstetrics Hospital said that the recent incident of self-abortion at home with medication shows that our pharmaceutical management has problems, we are using prescriptions everywhere to give people abortions. That is what leads to people buying their own medication to use when they are pregnant and want to have an abortion, while those medications can only be used with a prescription, and must be prescribed by an obstetrician.

"Currently, in medicine, there are safe abortion methods (vacuum curettage, medical abortion), but all must be done at the hospital and must be prescribed appropriately for the gestational age, because the ultimate goal is to preserve the reproductive function of girls in the future," Associate Professor Cuong noted.

According to the Department of Maternal and Child Health (Ministry of Health), you should absolutely not buy abortion pills to take yourself, but must go to a medical facility to do tests and health checks before performing a medical abortion. This method is only safe when the service provider is a medical staff who has been trained and has enough skills to control possible dangerous complications, such as excessive bleeding and infections that need to be treated.
