The document states: " According to athlete Pham Nhu Phuong, for each medal awarded, in addition to 10% income tax, she must pay an additional 10% to her coach at the Gymnastics Department of the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center. In addition to having to deduct 10% of the medal bonus for the coach, this athlete must also pay a bonus, with a collection rate of up to 50%.
To verify and clarify the related issues mentioned by the above press agency, the Department of Sports and Physical Training requests the Hanoi National Sports Training Center to coordinate with the High Performance Sports Department 1 of the Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation to urgently verify and clarify the matter and report the incident to the leaders of the Department of Sports and Physical Training before January 17, 2024."
On the afternoon of January 15, the Hanoi National Sports Training Center held a meeting with the gymnastics team's coaching staff. Coach NTD, who was accused by his students, had to explain.
Pham Nhu Phuong was recently eliminated from the Vietnamese gymnastics team for some reasons. She decided to retire soon after.
Previously, the coach of the youth table tennis team was also involved in a scandal of "skimping" money from athletes' meals.
