At the solemn session of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Congress in Ho Chi Minh City this afternoon (October 2), Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen affirmed that the past term for Ho Chi Minh City was an unprecedented historical period.

The Covid-19 pandemic broke out like a "tornado" with very high speed, extremely strong intensity, extremely dangerous, surpassing all forecasts, plans and preventive measures, putting the city in an extremely urgent situation, having to fight in conditions of shortage on all sides. However, thanks to the spirit of solidarity, national love, and compatriotism, the city has overcome the most dangerous moment, although the consequences are still lingering, and must continue to be overcome in the long term.

The above outstanding results have demonstrated the strength of solidarity that not only helps the city overcome many difficulties and challenges but also overcome and develop the economy, recover from the pandemic, and gradually complete the goals and tasks set out in the Resolution of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress; at the same time, create and build the future so that the city can develop rapidly according to immediate and long-term requirements.

According to Secretary Nguyen Van Nen, in addition to the achievements, the activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City still face many challenges. The work of "listening to people, speaking so that people understand, making people believe" has not been well promoted; the work of innovating the content of activities of units and socio-political organizations is not yet synchronous and effective; many patriotic emulation campaigns and movements have not achieved high efficiency...

Agreeing with the motto, goals, tasks and action program set forth by the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, Secretary Nguyen Van Nen requested that the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City immediately have an action program to coordinate and promote activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.

Along with that, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City needs to preside over and continue to effectively implement campaigns directly related to social security such as social housing, workers' accommodation, housing along and on canals, especially in the context that the Prime Minister has directed that temporary and dilapidated houses must be eliminated nationwide by December 31, 2025 at the latest.

"The entire city's political system and at this Congress, we must think about how to somehow do things faster and get results soon as directed by the Prime Minister" - Secretary Nen emphasized.

The city's Fatherland Front system needs to further promote volunteer programs, sharing, and supporting the poor, the lonely elderly, children in special circumstances, and vulnerable groups so that no one feels lost or left behind.

Assessing the huge workload in the 2024-2029 term, the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee noted that the important thing at hand is to have solutions to bring the resolution into life.

"To do that, first of all, it is necessary to have a team of cadres that ensures quantity and quality, associated with appropriate methods, attention to innovation, creativity, administrative reform and digital transformation" - Mr. Nen stated the reality.
