During the solemn session of the Ho Chi Minh City Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) this afternoon (October 2nd), Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen affirmed that the past term was an unprecedented historical period for Ho Chi Minh City.
The Covid-19 pandemic erupted like a whirlwind, spreading at an extremely high speed and with immense intensity, posing a grave danger that surpassed all predictions, plans, and preventative measures. It placed the city in an extremely critical situation, forcing it to fight the pandemic under conditions of severe shortages. However, thanks to the spirit of solidarity, national unity, and brotherly love, the city overcame its most perilous moment, although the consequences remain long-lasting and require continued long-term recovery.
These outstanding results demonstrate the power of unity, which has not only helped the city overcome numerous difficulties and challenges but also enabled it to recover and develop its economy , recover from the pandemic, and gradually fulfill the basic goals and tasks set forth in the Resolution of the 11th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; while simultaneously building a future where the city can develop rapidly to meet both immediate and long-term requirements.

According to Secretary Nguyen Van Nen, in addition to the achievements, the activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City still face many challenges. The principle of "listening to the people, speaking in a way the people understand, and acting in a way the people trust" has not been fully promoted; the work of innovating the content of activities of the unit and political and social organizations is still not synchronized and effective; many campaigns and patriotic emulation movements have not achieved high effectiveness...
In agreement with the principles, objectives, tasks, and action program set forth by the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, Secretary Nguyen Van Nen requested that the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City immediately develop an action program to coordinate and promote activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country.
In addition, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City needs to take the lead in continuing to effectively implement campaigns directly related to social welfare, such as social housing, worker accommodation, housing along and on canals and waterways, especially in the context that the Prime Minister has directed that temporary and dilapidated houses must be eliminated nationwide by December 31, 2025 at the latest.
"The entire city's political system and at this Congress must think about how to act faster and achieve results sooner in implementing the Prime Minister's directives," Secretary Nên emphasized.
The Fatherland Front system of the city needs to further promote charitable programs, sharing and supporting the poor, the elderly living alone, children with special circumstances, and vulnerable groups so that no one feels lost or left behind.
Assessing the enormous workload for the 2024-2029 term, the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee noted that the most important immediate task is to find solutions to put the resolution into practice.

"To achieve that, we first need a team of qualified and sufficient personnel, coupled with appropriate methods, a focus on innovation, creativity, administrative reform, and digital transformation," Mr. Nên stated, highlighting the current situation.
"The power of the people is more important than gold, silver, or diamonds."

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Do Van Chien, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, stated that the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City has done a good job of gathering broad sections of the people, truly serving as a solid bridge between the Party, the State and the people, proactively and actively initiating many movements imbued with the humane and compassionate spirit of the people of the city.
Mr. Chien also expressed his hope that the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, under any circumstances, will fulfill its noble mission as the center for uniting the entire population; as the political core to promote democracy and create high social consensus; and to strongly inspire the creativity and aspirations of all citizens of the city.
"The Vietnam Fatherland Front doesn't directly generate money or create massive, modern projects, but under the leadership of the Party, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, as the core, will create the strength of the people's will. That may even be more important than gold, silver, or diamonds," Mr. Chien shared.
