Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Huy - Head of the Pediatrics Department of Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that the hospital received baby HTL (7 years old, Vinh Hoa ward, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa) who was stung by a jellyfish and had itchy rash, purple skin, and loss of consciousness.

After receiving emergency care, the patient was conscious, had a clear pulse but still had a slight fever, and the wound on his arm was swollen, red, and spreading. Currently, the patient's fever has gone away, his vital signs are stable, he is eating and drinking and is continuing to receive treatment, ” said Dr. Huy.

Ms. Nguyen Hoan (L.'s mother) said that on the afternoon of June 23, L. and her father went swimming in the Hon Chong beach area (Nha Trang) and were stung by a jellyfish. When the father discovered and brought her to shore, L.'s arms were black and bruised, and she was unconscious.

" If I had discovered it later, I don't know what would have happened to my child ," Ms. Hoan shared.

Ms. Hoan also said that both father and son were stung by jellyfish, but the child was still young so his injuries were more severe. Currently, the child can talk and is in stable health.

According to Dr. Huy, when children go to the beach and suspect they have come into contact with jellyfish, parents need to take their children out of the water where there are jellyfish, stay calm, and reassure them to reduce their anxiety and fear.

Quickly wash the wound with sea water or vinegar to clean the toxin, do not wash with fresh water because it will make the injury worse. You can apply ice to reduce pain.

In case a child has anaphylactic shock after being stung by a jellyfish with symptoms such as chills, fear, panic, hot flashes, itchy red rash on the skin, swollen eyes, swollen lips, stuffy nose, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dizziness... need to be taken to the hospital immediately. Anaphylactic shock can lead to death if not treated promptly.
