An Trinh Bao, an ancient fortress built in the mountains of Vinh An County, Fujian Province in 1885, is the most massive civil structure in Fujian Province. The fortress was built by a landlord's family to protect against robbers, but for more than a hundred years, no one has lived there. The building covers an area of 10,000 square meters, 2/3 of the walls are made of stone with a base more than 4 meters thick.

Inside the building are 360 rooms, 12 kitchens, 5 water wells, can serve 1,000 people at the same time. The wall is over 10 meters high, using nearly 10,000 tons of stone, located on a swamp but does not sink. The secret is in the foundation, which is made of pine wood that has been dried and soaked in water. After drying and soaking, the pine wood becomes solid and has the effect of preventing termites.
The foundation of An Trinh Bao is made of 18 layers of pine wood, compacting the soil and rocks, making the soil in the swamp solid. Another thing that makes the castle famous is that it is located in the middle of a hot and humid mountainous area, uninhabited but has no spider webs, while spider webs appear everywhere in the surrounding houses.

Locals believe that two paintings in the castle are the reason why the building is spider-free. One depicts a fairy boy sweeping away cobwebs with a broom. The other depicts a fairy boy waving a banana leaf and sucking bats into a gourd.
Coincidentally, every year in the summer and autumn, there are many bats flying into An Trinh Bao. Bats will eat all kinds of winged insects such as flies, mosquitoes... leaving spiders without food and unable to grow.
