According to the Discovery Channel, most locals believe that these hills are so magnetic that they can pull cars uphill. That is also the origin of the name “Magnetic Hill”.
Magnetic Hill is located at an altitude of more than 4,000m above sea level, along the Leh-Kargil-Baltic Highway, in the Trans-Himalaya region.
Here, the Sindhu River flows east of the hills, creating a breathtaking natural landscape.

Some people do not believe that this hill has the magnetism of a magnet. They think this phenomenon is an optical illusion.
They argued that although the hill appeared to slope up, it actually sloped down. This illusion occurred because the horizon in the area was obscured by the mountains surrounding the highway.
Locals say that these hills are the gateway to heaven. They will pull good or worthy people towards the top of the hill, and vice versa.
Some others believe that these hills contain supernatural and divine powers.
The stories and theories surrounding the magnetic hill make it a must-visit tourist spot in Ladakh.
According to Outlook Traveller magazine, the best time to experience the above phenomenon is from July to September. During this time, the roads are very clear and the weather is relatively pleasant, helping visitors easily admire the full enchanting beauty of Ladakh./.
