(NLDO) - The ancient tomb of a couple who lived 1,800 years ago is mysteriously intact among tombs that have been robbed of their treasures.
According to a statement from the Chinese Institute of Archaeology, the cluster of three ancient tombs is believed to belong to a wealthy family during the Han Dynasty (206 BC to AD 220), equivalent to at least more than 1,800 years old.
Located in a park in Rizhao town, Shandong province - China, the upper part of these tombs has been heavily damaged by previous agricultural activities.

During the expansion of the park, underground structures of tombs were discovered and excavations there were carried out before the park was expanded.
According to Live Science, the tombs all have an architecture described as "knife handle shaped" with a length of 6.7 m, including a passage leading down to the central room.
Each tomb contained the coffins of two people, and two of the three tombs still had the word "Huan" written on them, which could be the surname of the person buried in the tomb. Therefore, archaeologists believe that this is a cluster of tombs belonging to a clan, and each tomb contains a married couple.
According to Live Science, the most surprising thing is that while two tombs were severely damaged, the third tomb in the cluster was mysteriously intact.
This mysterious tomb most clearly demonstrated the luxury of its owners, when archaeologists brought up more than 70 precious burial objects, including swords and elaborately crafted bronze mirrors, enameled ceramic vases, lacquered water cups...

The coffins themselves are also valuable antiques. All were carved from a single tree trunk, and one of them even had a cart-like structure attached to it to move the coffin.
In addition, each tomb is designed like a small house with windows and doors decorated on the tomb walls, making the entire tomb cluster like a miniature residential area for those living in the "other world".
All the above details show the burial customs with many interesting characteristics of the Han people in Shandong, as well as the special status of those buried.
