Bhutan proposes to facilitate direct flights to Vietnam

On September 19, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet received Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Thailand and concurrently to Vietnam Kinzang Dorji on the occasion of the Ambassador's visit to Vietnam to present his credentials.

Ambassador Kinzang Dorji expressed his honor to be the first Ambassador of Bhutan to present his credentials since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2012, emphasizing that Bhutan always considers Vietnam as one of the priority countries to promote bilateral relations as well as wishes to learn from Vietnam's development experience.

The Ambassador expressed his wish to further promote the potential and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, investment, culture, education, tourism, and cooperation on Buddhism; affirmed that he would make efforts to further enhance exchanges and connections between the two countries.

The Ambassador shared that Bhutan Air has plans to open a direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Paro city (Bhutan), suggesting that the two sides soon sign an agreement on aviation services to facilitate the implementation of the direct flight; saying that this will be a big boost for exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet highly appreciated Bhutan as one of the leading countries in implementing green growth goals and maintaining “happiness” indicators; emphasizing that Vietnam and Bhutan share many similarities in ensuring balanced and sustainable development, and are actively cooperating at multilateral forums on sustainable development.

The Deputy Minister appreciated the good development of Vietnam-Bhutan relations and suggested that the two sides further strengthen the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels in the coming time, contributing to increasing mutual understanding.

Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet welcomed the two sides to increase connectivity and expand cultural and tourism cooperation; said that Vietnam is ready to export products with strengths to Bhutan such as agricultural products, food, seafood, agricultural machinery, electronics, and electric vehicles; and shared that Vietnam has many large, capable enterprises that can invest in Bhutan in the fields of infrastructure, telecommunications, and services.

The Deputy Minister asked the Ambassador to actively exchange and connect agencies, ministries, sectors and businesses of the two countries to promote cooperation opportunities and affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is always ready to coordinate and support the Ambassador to fulfill his duties.
